UGREEN has just introduced two new flagship models in its NASync series, the 8-bay DXP8800 Ultra and the 6-bay DXP6800 Ultra. They feature more powerful processors, offer up to 272TB and 208TB of raw storage capacity, respectively, fast connectivity with 10GbE and Thunderbolt 4, and a user-friendly operating system. Pricing starts at $1,450.
Although UGREEN is a relatively new player when it comes to network-attached storage (NAS) solutions, the Chinese company has rapidly gained ground thanks to viable products and aggressive pricing, effectively competing with well-established manufacturers like QNAP and Synology.
I’ve personally been running their DXP6800 Pro 6-bay NAS as the main storage solution for my video production work for almost a year now. So far, this system has been extremely reliable and, compared to my previous QNAP NAS, I feel it’s much easier to set up and maintain, especially for non-IT insiders like myself. Now, the new DXP8800 Ultra and DXP6800 promise even better performance. So let’s take a closer look!
The UGREEN NASync DXP8800 Ultra and DXP6800 Ultra NAS devices feature 8 and 6 SATA drive bays, respectively, each supporting disks up to 32 TB. Combine these with two M.2 NVMe slots, each supporting SSDs of up to 8TB, and you get a whopping 272TB (DXP8800 Ultra) or 208TB (DXP6800 Ultra) of raw storage space, accessible both locally and remotely. Of course, the available storage space depends on the RAID level that you choose (RAID JBOD/Basic/0/1/5/6/10 are supported).
Besides the number of bays, the biggest difference between the models is the processor. The DXP8800 Ultra boasts an Intel Core 7 150U 10-core chip, while the DXP6800 Ultra comes with an Intel Core 5 120U. This is also one of the major updates compared to the existing UGREEN NASync models.
Another improvement is the maximum supported RAM. Both models come with 8GB of DDR5 RAM pre-installed, but this is now expandable up to 96GB. My DXP6800 Pro, for example, is “limited” to a maximum of 64GB, although, in reality, I’ve never felt the need to expand the original 8GB, even when editing footage directly off the NAS.
The two Ultra models share the same fast, high-speed connectivity with two 10GbE and two Thunderbolt 4 ports, with the latter offering up to 40Gbps of bandwidth. Two USB-A 10Gbps ports, two USB 2.0 ports (480Mbps), an HDMI output with 8K support, and an SD card slot are also available.
Like the existing NASync series devices, the DXP8800 Ultra and DXP6800 Ultra feature a sleek aluminum design with two large cooling fans at the back, protected by a magnetic dust mesh filter that is extremely convenient to clean.
By default, UGREEN NASync devices run the frequently updated UGOS Pro operating system, offering easy management of files, storage, multi-user permissions, and more, via a clean, minimalist UI. Of course, remote access is supported via the UGREENlink service, and a mobile app is also available to access the NAS on the go.
The new UGREEN NASync DXP8800 Ultra and DXP6800 Ultra are now available to pre-order for $1,779.99 and $1,449.99, respectively. These prices are for the NAS only; disks must be purchased separately. According to the company, both models should start shipping on September 30th.
