ASUS has unveiled the ProArt Display PA16USV, a 15.6-inch 4K portable monitor with 12G-SDI connectivity designed for on-set professionals. Factory-calibrated to Delta E <2 with 100% sRGB/Rec.709 coverage, it supports uncompressed 4K@60Hz transmission and targets directors, DITs, and camera assistants.

The standout feature of the ProArt Display PA16USV is its 12G-SDI input, which supports uncompressed 4K video at 60Hz directly from camera devices with ultra-low latency, which of course makes it particularly valuable for on-set monitoring. The 12G-SDI connectivity is a stand-out feature for a monitor in this category.

The monitor also includes HDMI 2.0 and USB-C with DisplayPort Alt Mode for versatility across different devices. A notable convenience feature is the single-cable solution via USB-C, which can handle both video signal and power input from compatible devices, though this requires at least 15W power output from the connected device.

Color accuracy supported standards

ASUS has factory-calibrated the PA16USV to achieve a Delta E value of less than 2, which is verified by Calman testing. The display covers 100% sRGB and 100% Rec.709 color spaces, making it suitable for both digital imaging and video production workflows.

The monitor includes nine ProArt preset modes: Native, sRGB, Adobe RGB, Rec.709, DCI-P3, DICOM, HDR, and two user-defined modes. For HDR content, it supports multiple HDR10 curves including PQ Clip, PQ Optimized, and PQ Basic, allowing creators to select the appropriate curve for their specific needs.

Resolution, size, peak brightness, viewing angle and response time

The 15.6-inch IPS panel delivers 4K UHD resolution (3840 x 2160) with a pixel density of 282 PPI, providing four times the resolution of Full HD displays. Peak brightness reaches 400 cd/m², with a contrast ratio of 1,200:1. The display maintains 170-degree viewing angles both horizontally and vertically. Its peak brightness limits on-set usage of course, unless you are shooting indoors in a studio.

Response time is rated at 5ms (gray-to-gray) with a maximum refresh rate of 60Hz. The anti-glare surface treatment should help reduce reflections in various lighting conditions.

The response time sounds great and should make it usable on set despite its peak brightness limitations.

Design and portability features

Weighing just 1.4 kg (3.09 lbs) with its stand, the PA16USV is designed for mobility. It includes dual ambient light sensors at the top and bottom that automatically adjust display brightness to match environmental lighting conditions. The monitor supports VESA 75 x 75mm mounting for tripod attachment, making it adaptable to different on-set configurations.

ASUS has implemented what it calls QuickFit Plus, providing real-time previews with center markers, safety areas, and on-screen rulers that can be customized according to user preferences. Picture-in-Picture (PiP) and Picture-by-Picture (PbP) modes allow viewing of multiple inputs simultaneously with separate color engines for each source.

The display is compatible with ASUS DisplayWidget Center software, allowing users to adjust monitor settings via mouse and keyboard rather than physical buttons. A new ColorSync feature can synchronize color settings across multiple displays of the same model, which could be useful for multi-monitor setups in post-production environments.

The PA16USV represents ASUS’s continued focus on professional creative markets, joining a comprehensive ProArt lineup that ranges from entry-level displays to high-end 8K mini-LED monitors. The company is currently offering a promotional bundle that includes a three-month trial of Adobe Creative Cloud with Generative AI applications (valued at up to $488.91) for ProArt Display purchases through August 31, 2025. The current price for the display is $999 and is already in stock at major retailers like B&H and others.

The monitor comes with a three-year warranty covering the LCD panel, system, and zero-bright-dot guarantee. The PA16USV appears positioned as a specialized tool for professionals who prioritize color accuracy and professional connectivity in a portable package.

For filmmakers and content creators who need reliable on-set monitoring with professional-grade color reproduction, the ASUS ProArt Display PA16USV offers an interesting combination of portability, connectivity options, and factory-calibrated accuracy. However, as with any new product, real-world testing will ultimately determine how well it performs in demanding production environments.
