Back To School with Canon’s Digital Learning Center.

Canon’s Digital Learning Center is not so bad after all.

While researching infrared remote switches I came across this article at Canon’s Digital Learning Center. I must admit, it made me uncomfortable to hear Canon use lingo like “video shooter” and “film look”. I still managed to get something out of my time at school.

“You’ll hear some experienced video shooters say that 24 fps generates more of a “film look”, meaning that certain types of motion appear more natural to your eye and brain.”

And for some reason Canon seems to want to over compensate for the APS-C sensor in the 7D. They mention “not a full-frame sensor” more than once.

“Even though the imaging sensor in the EOS 7D is not a full-frame sensor, as we see in the EOS 5D Mark II, for instance, the 7D sensor is still much larger than the sensor used in nearly all video cameras under $30,000.”

This may be a good article to introduce producers, directors, and newcomers to the 7D and HDSLR film making. They do explain the differences between frame rates, shutter speed and DOF quite well with images to boot. It is mostly an advertisement for the 7D, However I would still recommend having a look at this and other articles at Canon’s Digital Learning Center.
