Blackmagic Camera 9.6 update introduces support for the Blackmagic PYXIS monitor and SDI LUT toggling on the Micro Studio Camera 4K G2, streamlining monitoring, control, and creative decision-making in live and studio environments.
While we do get confused with the naming of Blackmagic Design‘s camera firmware updates – they stubbornly seem to count up the version numbers while they are not relevant for all the cameras every time they release an update – we are happy that the company is great with adding new features to cameras that have long been released to the market. This time, the update really only is relevant for the Blackmagic Micro Studio Camera 4K G2.
One of the key additions in version 9.6 is full support for the Blackmagic PYXIS monitor, allowing users to frame, focus, and adjust camera settings directly via touchscreen. The connection is plug-and-play with a single USB-C cable — handling video, power, and camera control all at once — minimizing cable clutter and simplifying multi-camera or remote workflows.
The update also enables a much-requested feature: toggling 3D LUTs on the SDI output of the Blackmagic Micro Studio Camera 4K G2. This allows operators and DPs to quickly switch between a clean log image and one with a LUT applied. Whether you’re evaluating different looks or ensuring color consistency across cameras, this real-time comparison can be a valuable time-saver on set or in live production environments.
Blackmagic Camera 9.6 is available immediately as a free download via Blackmagic Design’s official support page. Like many of Blackmagic’s software updates, it significantly extends the value and functionality of existing hardware — especially for users of the compact but capable Micro Studio Camera 4K G2.
Will PYXIS support change how you use the Micro Studio Camera 4K G2? Are SDI LUT toggles something you’ve been waiting for? Let us know how this update fits into your workflow!
