CAME-TV Motorized Wireless Track Dolly Introduced

September 20th, 2022 Jump to Comment Section

Hot on the heels of IBC, we jumped on a friendly talk with David Wong from CAME-TV, who was kind enough to introduce the company’s new Motorized Wireless Track Dolly. The whole system consists of only two parts, a remote control and the motorized dolly itself, which can be used, for example, to upgrade an existing manual tripod-dolly combination.

This new CAME-TV Motorized Wireless Track Dolly can be considered an upgrade for existing gear, even if it’s not from CAME-TV. This type of vendor-agnostic equipment is always welcome, of course, as it can be integrated into your existing kit without having to spend extra dollars on a whole new ecosystem.

The new CAME TV system, although mainly intended for tripod dollies, is quite compact as it includes only two devices: the motorized dolly unit (max payload is 20 kg), to which your existing tripod is attached, and a handy remote control.

To power the dolly power system, you need a (micro) V-mount battery, which you can get directly from CAME-TV as well as from many other manufacturers. Just pick and choose one, or maybe you already have some spare batteries in your bag.

The remote is connected to the dolly via 2.4 GHz, and although this frequency band is pretty crowded nowadays, it should work just fine if you’re not too far away from the dolly (which is a good idea anyway in case the tripod tips over, you never know).

With the remote control, you can set 10 different speed levels (from 100s/m to 22s/m), A-B points and of course start/stop. The remote control has its own built-in 3.7V/1000mAh battery.

Pricing and availability

According to David from CAME-TV, the company offers three kits for this new dolly / remote control combo:

  • 1x Motorized track dolly power system, 1x remote control
  • 1x Dolly power system, 1x dolly from CAME-TV, 1x remote control
  • 1x Dolly power system, 1x dolly from CAME-TV, 1x set of tracks, 1x remote control

The first kit costs about $380 and CAME-TV plans to ship the new dolly system in October this year. The prices for the other two kits are not yet determined, as it is not 100% clear what kind of tracks are included, etc.

With the dolly included in kits two and three, you only need to add a tripod. As for the rails, both standard straight and curved rails work well with the CAME TV system. And thanks to the open architecture, the only limitation to the range is the number of tracks you place.
