Canon 50mm "Drop Test" Lens Makes It In The Video.

April 10th, 2010

Here is the Music Video I shot with Director Darcy Fray for the song ” Goodbye L.A.” by Reagan Browne on a rooftop in Downtown Los Angeles. The “Drop Test” Canon 50mm f1.8 made it in the video. It really did work like a “Lens Baby” with iris control. Jason Wawro shot “B”  camera. Nancy Schreiber , ASC  has really embraced the HDSLR’s and lent us her fantastic eye for the Downtown L.A. shots. Philip Miller did the cutting. Chris Collins and Hunter Kerhart AC’d. We shot with Zeiss Ze Primes,  two Canon 5D Mark II’s and a Canon 7D. Neutral Picture Style at 160 ISO.

I know there isn’t any rules in music videos, but simple things like continuity, jump cuts etc still apply…

why is the singer in one shot holding the mic, and straight in the next shot, holding his guitar…

Watch it with the music off, its quite different.

Lots of gratuitous rack focus. 8-0 and way too much “paper thin DOF” 8-(
Just because you can do something doesn’t mean you should :-)

But the cameras do look like they worked well.

I should have asked, which prime focal ranges did you use…?

Looks good. How did you grade? Which lenses / gear etc?

Grotesque music though.
