March 15th, 2010

5d_firmware_poster_march2010Finally the long wait is over. The new Firmware Update should be available for download within twenty four hours. Rumor has it that Shane Hurlbut has been shooting a “Sizzle” reel for Canon to show off the new 24p and manual audio control. Look for updates and a link to download the new firmware here.

Looks like the company already starts comunicating the products in a way that rather emphasis the video character of it. Oneself wonders if the 5d will end up being the chosen one for transformation into a dedicated cinematic tool.

Dear Friends,
This is so unfair that there is only one link to download this new firmware, there must be couple of more to download it, so that others can also get it.

Experienced some hot/dead pixels after the update. I could resolve the problem though by performing the well known hotpixel-mapping procedure (doing a manual sensor clean with lenscap on and turning the camera off after about 30sec).

All dead pixels are gone now! ;-)

I shot a bunch of 60P footage of exotic cars last weekend for conversion to slow motion. I don’t think I’ll be giving up my 7D anytime soon for that very reason.

Looking forward to working with a 5D regardless.

hey guys, I downloaded the new firmware update file and followed the camera connected to the computer method and everything went as the instruction tells. But, when I powered up my camera after the update, nothing is working. When I press menu or live view button, it just says no image on the lcd and “busy” on the top display.

Any idea how what went wrong and how I could fix this?

Thanks!

Rara,

Did you turn it off, take the battery out for a few seconds, and put it back in? Also make sure you format the card again.

I hope this firmware comes out tomorrow am, my producer doesn’t want to delay the shoot by a day to wait for this firmware. Oh well Twixtor you will get one last cursing session from me before I abandon you.

would the upgrade be available at a .jp address first ? or simultaniously worldwide ?

i jut wonder why if this upgrade has been ready for ages why canon make us wait for a specific date .. why not just say here it is asap !!!

now we have to badger canon to get 60p and get rid of that horrible stretch on external display when recording …

so .. yayyy !!! and boooo !!

:-P
