Here is a direct quote from the Canon site. The plug in is available now for download.

“Canon’s new plug-in software for Final Cut Pro is currently available for FREE download on Canon web sites around the world. Please follow this link to go directly to the Drivers and Downloads area for one of our EOS HD-DSLR cameras to download the plug-in. In the “Drivers/Software Selection” area, be sure to select your operating system form the drop down list, otherwise you may not see the full list of down loadable drivers, software, and firmware options for each camera.”

for mac it works only with the following (so it is written) :

MacOS 10.6.2 or later;
Final Cut Pro 6.0.6 and 7.0.1 or later.

I have none of above.

I test the plugin “E1” and INCREDIBLE the files from my camera (Canon 5D MK2) fly in FCP. Now I can edit directly, without losing time coding and space in my harddisk. I TEST 25 FPS AND 30 FPS.

I use Macbook Pro 2.66 Intel Core 2 Duo and 4 Gig Ram

BRAVO CANON

Will this be better than just using MPEG Streamclip, or does it basically do the same thing?

No complaints from my side. Just a huge thank you to Canon for this very welcome gift.

Still proxyprocedures for both mac and pc though an easier workflow in final cut pro.
Still a long wait until h.264 will edit natively if ever?

It only works with INTEL Machines! Why do they assume nobody has G5 Powermacs? It does not matter how fast it works if you can only use it on a laptop or a machine costing over £2500. Can they bring out a scaled down version?

Does Canon understand that the majority of users don’t have Powermacs! Sure I’d like to have one, but I just dumped this years budget into the Canon system and FCP upgrades for my G5!

Official response from Canon in regards to my inquiry regrading this issue:

“At this moment there is no information available regarding future
plug-ins. We recommend you check our website (www.canoneos.com) from
time to time to learn of new announcements in the U.S. market.”
