Cine Summit is a free online filmmaking event, with its upcoming fifth iteration taking place from 1st – 2nd March and focusing particularly on aspects of directing.
The argument for and against a formal education in order to pursue a career in our industry is the subject of a heated debate, with valid arguments for both sides. But despite the side of the fence you’re in, the opportunities to learn from other successful professionals through workshop events is always a good way to expand your knowledge and skills, and discover the different challenges facing the industry today outside of a classroom environment. Especially if they are free.
One such initiative is filmmaker Aviv Vana’s Cine Summit. Now in its 5th iteration since 2014, this “2-day online Master Class” aims to bring some of the best professionals working in today’s filmmaking industry for a series of presentations on different aspects of their craft. While in the past Cine Summit has focused on cinematography, CS5 will concentrate specifically on directing, with presentations from 10 directors from the fields of narrative film, documentary and commercials. Below you can see “Nomads of Mongolia”, a piece by one of this year’s speakers, Brandon Li.
Cine Summit 5 will take place from March 1st – 2nd, and all presentations will be free to watch while the event is live, after which you will be able to access all videos – also in audio form – as well as presentation slides and notes for a price. Lifetime access to the CS5 content is $97 until the end of the event, but goes up to $147 after that. This is also the price for the individual Cine Summit events that have taken place since 2014.
Registration to Cine Summit 5 is open, and you can read more about it here.
