Eddie, the AI-powered assistant editor described by the company as “ChatGPT for video editing,” has just landed in DaVinci Resolve. Released recently for Premiere Pro, the new extension allows editors to log, pull multicam and standard clips, and build rough cuts in seconds, without leaving their preferred NLE. It’s an AI that stays behind the scenes, lightening the workload by quietly speeding up mundane tasks that used to eat up hours. Let’s take a closer look.

Following its Premiere Pro launch, Eddie AI is now available as a script-based extension for DaVinci Resolve (note: and as of May 15th, also Final Cut Pro). Once installed, the standalone app becomes a virtual assistant that responds to conversational prompts. It supports logging footage, spotting key soundbites, and assembling a first rough cut using material directly from your Resolve bin, including multicam clips. When the groundwork is done, the sequence returns to Resolve for finishing work like color, audio, and graphics.

Last month, Eddie AI released version 2.0 with a bunch of new features, including A and B roll logging, native Mac and Windows apps, and a “rough cut” mode that supports multi-cam. If you’re not yet familiar with Eddie AI, you can watch the following video to get an idea of what it does:

How the app works

Once installed, the Eddie AI app behaves like a bridge, connecting directly to Resolve through a script-based extension accessed via Workspace > Scripts > Eddie AI. From there, editors choose an edit mode: rough cut, interview logging, A/B roll, or social clips. Eddie does its processing outside of Resolve but entirely on your local computer, and when it’s done, it returns a draft sequence to your timeline. Nothing is uploaded or sent to the cloud, and you never leave Resolve.

Free plan updates and Dark Mode

Eddie AI is also introducing a major upgrade to its free plan. Users can now log, edit, and export up to two full projects per month without a subscription or credit card. If you invite a team member, you’ll earn extra exports when they sign up. And yes, Dark Mode has finally arrived. According to the company, it’s been their most requested feature.

Price and availability

The extension for DaVinci Resolve is available now as part of the Eddie AI desktop app for macOS and Windows. The app itself is free to download and is priced as follows:

• Starter (Free): Allows up to two full project exports per month.
• Plus ($25/month or $250/yearly): Includes up to four projects per month, access to native Mac and Windows applications, and support for various editing modes such as rough cut, A/B roll logging, and multicam podcast editing.
• Pro ($100/month or $1000/yearly): Provides unlimited projects, the ability to import larger and longer video files, priority processing with advanced AI models, and access to a private community for video professionals.
