I like his combination and use it as my “B” tripod solution for lightweight cameras and HDSLRs. The carbon fiber legs are very flexible and allows me to place the tripod on every type of surface not being limited by the tripod spreader. For the price the head is fine too.
The quick release plate is now a “cross platform” solution for Sachtler and Manfrotto so moving your camera from this tripod to a slider equipped with a Manfrotto head is a no brainer.

The Ace L carbon fibre version is amazing because it brings the lightness of the Ace heads to the legs as well – that comes at a price for the carbon fibre. However it also makes the legs more flexible (they go very low and very high), and opposed to the normal legs they are telescopic and therefore easier and faster to set up.

Glidetrack SD – 30" SliderB&Hglidetrack.com

With all those “high tech” sliders around, I made 180 degrees turn and went “back to basics” with my old trusty Glidtrack SD slider.
True, all components making this slider can be purchase elsewhere and much cheaper but if you are looking for a complete very compact portable working slider, Glidetrack SD is the way to go. It is the only slider which I tested that actually has some “movement resistance”, allowing me slow and smooth “dolly like” slides.

Sachtler Ace M Tripod SystemB&Hsachtler.com

The Sachtler Ace M series tripod is by far the most inexpensive tripod solution that Sachtler produces. The head takes up to 4kg and is made of a very sturdy hardened plastic (unlike the other heads which are made of metal). This material has one huge advantage: the head is extremely lightweight. It’s nice that it performs very similar to other Sachtler heads, and that it features the same step-based settings for balance and drag. It’s one of the few cheaper tripods that acutally can be properly balanced for most cameras. The legs are aluminium and in two versions: I usually prefer mid spreader tripods but the ground spreader version of the Ace M goes much lower, which is always helpful.

This original Sachtler Ace is really “best for the money”. In terms of functionality, if you are shooting with a HDSLR it will seat very comfortably on it. sure I would have loved having a tighter drag and a balance illuminated bubble, but for the price this tripod is equipped very well.

If you are looking for a great tripod for the money, one that will support your lightweight slider (you might need 2 of those, one in each side), look no farther.
