iFootage Launches SpiderCrab Quick-Release Magic Arms

iFootage has just announced the launch of a new magic arm system called the iFootage SpiderCrab. Available in two lengths, the SpiderCrab magic arms feature a quick-release mechanism on both ends that allows you to quickly and securely attach any accessory to your camera rig. Let’s take a closer look at it!

During our cinema5D Virtual Show, Madison Lee from iFootage gave us a sneak peek at their new iFootage SpiderCrab magic arms. Available in 7-inch/18cm and 11-inch/28cm long, the SpiderCrab is entirely made out of metal and features one big knob that simultaneously locks everything in place. At this point, nothing revolutionary. But, the main selling point of these SpiderCrab magic arms is the quick-release system on both ends of the arms.

Indeed, the concept behind this product is that you attach a module to your camera or accessory. Then, all you have to do is snap the SpiderCrab into the modules and secure it into place with the jumbo buckle lock.

Several modules are available to mount the SpiderCrab to nearly every accessories or camera, including:

  • A standard 1/4-20″ module that can attach to almost any camera accessory.
  • One 3/8-16″ module with a spring-loaded 1/4-20″ adapter that features ARRI anti-twist pins.
  • A cold shoe adapter, perfect for mounting a SpiderCrab onto your camera.

Pricing and Availability

There is currently no word on pricing yet. Still, the SpiderCrab should be available to pre-order mid-May, with an expected delivery date around the end of June, depending on the current Coronavirus situation.

A magic arm that features a built-in quick-release system is not something new. Indeed, the Zacuto Zamerican arms are available for quite some time now, as well as the quick-release adapters for the Bright Tangerine Titan arms. Otherwise, I think that iFootage SpiderCrab magic arms will be priced at a much more affordable price for filmmakers on a budget.

What do you think about this iFootage SpiderCrab magic arm solution? What magic arms are you using at the moment? Let us know in the comments below!
