Kinefinity KineOS 7.2 Launched – Improved Pre-roll, Active E-mount, ExFAT File System, and More

Kinefinity has just launched KineOS 7.2, a firmware update for their MAVO Edge 8K, MAVO Edge 6K, and MAVO mark2 cameras, with new functionalities such as an improved Pre-roll function, ExFAT file system, active E-mount adaptation, and other improvements, as well as some bug fixes. Let’s explore these new additions.

Kinefinity is a Chinese brand that has established themselves in the market over the years thanks to their line of cameras like the TERRA 6K, KineMINI 4K, and the KineRAW-S35. They have also expanded, thanks to their new distributors and customer support worldwide.

KineOS 7.2 main updates

With this new KineOS 7.2, the brand keeps improving its products with new features. The first noticeable update is the Pre-roll function, which extends to 30 seconds and allows us to pre-record in high resolution and full-frame rates for all encodings. This update is a convenient feature to ensure we don’t miss any important shots. A new Pre-roll interface displays all the information for a better user experience.

Kinefinity also adds the ExFAT file system to their cameras, increasing the write speed by 30% and enhancing the compatibility between Windows and iOS devices. ExFAT should improve workflow efficiency, and it enables high bitrate recording in 6K and 8K.

The third remarkable update in KineOS 13.2 is the inclusion of active E-mount for the MAVO Edge/MAVO mark2, compatible with different electronic E-mount options. This new feature increases flexibility when choosing lenses for our projects. We now have in-camera electronic control for iris, focus and servo zoom, and metadata recording, following cinema lenses Cooke/I protocol.

Other features and bug fixes

Other new features and advancements are improved startup time, an option to delete the last recorded clip, enhanced stability when recording at high frame rates and resolutions, external timecode displaying on SDI outputs, etc.

There are also some bugs fixed in this update:

  • Fixes an issue where some parameters on the side screen may not display correctly.
  • Fixes an issue where adjusting specific parameters in the app is not enabled correctly.
  • Fixes an issue where the indicator box might display information with the incorrect system language.
  • Fixes an issue where the SDI output image might display inaccurate color.
  • Fixes an issue where some default parameters are incorrect after restoring factory settings.
