Magic Lantern Hack for Canon 5D mark III

April 29th, 2012 Jump to Comment Section

Apparently the Canon 5D mark III has been firmware hacked, just like its predecessor the mark II was hacked by Trammell Hudson some years ago to slowly enable things like manual audio controls, higher video bitrates and several display guides.

There are no features in Magic Lantern’s mark III hack yet, they only announced that they got in which seems to be the first important to step to start messing with a camera firmware.

With the mark III giving us most of the features desired in a modern HDSLR the question remains which features will be added through the hack. One possibility that has been pointed out is the enabling of a clean hdmi-out signal to enable recording video in higher quality via an external harddisk recorder.

On a sidenote Canon has just released 5D mark III firmware update 1.1.2 with no mentioned updates to the video side of the camera.
