MID49 recently released their baseline 15mm LW baseplate for the Pixboom Spark high-speed camera. This baseplate attaches to your camera via an Arca Swiss quick-release plate; it sets the 15mm rods at the correct height and features an ARRI dovetail plate at the bottom. So, let’s take a closer look at it!
The Pixboom Spark is a high-speed camera that was first shown at IBC 2025. In a nutshell, this compact camera features a Super 35 global-shutter sensor, and it can record in 4.6K open-gate at up to 670 frames per second, and up to 2,182 fps at 2K 2.37:1. We reviewed the camera here if you want to learn more about it.
The most noticeable selling point of this camera is its price point: with an introductory price below β¬8000 – now β¬12,999.00 – it is one of the first “affordable” high-speed cameras on the market.
With a box-style form factor, the Pixboom Spark is a camera that requires some rigging if you want to get the most out of it. Texas-based American manufacturer MID49 has recently released its baseline 15mm LW baseplate for the Pixboom Spark to make your life easier on set.
The MID49 baseline 15mm LW baseplate for the Pixboom Spark is, like most products from the brand, entirely made out of metal and designed to survive the toughest shooting conditions. The baseplate weighs 334g/11.78oz.
Similar to most MID49 baseplates, the baseline 15mm LW attaches to the bottom of the Pixboom Spark with an Arca Swiss quick-release plate with one 1/4″-20 and one 3/8″-16 screw to prevent twisting. Furthermore, there is a vertical rod hole clamp so you can attach a 1/4″-20 lens support post. The baseplate comes with three lens support posts.
Then, the camera can be top-loaded onto the baseplate or slide in from the back. When you slide the camera into the baseplate from the rear, a safety pin clicks into place, preventing it from falling while you adjust its position to balance the rig. Lastly, tighten the thumbscrew to lock it into place.
At the bottom of the baseplate, you’ll find an ARRI-standard baseplate with the same slide-in and top-load capabilities. The baseplate comes with a MID49 baseline ARRI dovetail, which can attach to tripod plates using 1/4-20 or 3/8-16 screws, or ARRI standard bridgeplates with centered or offset screw spacing.
Last but not least, this baseplate can take two 15mm lightweight rods, set at the perfect distance from the center of the lens on the Pixboom Spark.
The MID49 baseline 15mm LW baseplate for the Pixboom Spark is available now for $499/β¬441.95.
