The MUTINY RAPTOR IO is a port expander and power distribution module that is specifically designed for RED’s 8K flagship camera. Coming in both V-mount and Gold mount options, it is now available to pre-order for $1,200.
The RED V-RAPTOR 8K VV camera recently visited our headquarters and we run it through its paces in our Lab Test. Make sure to check out the results and interview with our Lab Test expert Gunther in this article.
Compared to the studio-oriented V-RAPTOR XL, which features a unified body with all sorts of professional I/O and power connections, the standard V-RAPTOR is a little more limited in this regard. For this reason, MUTINY came up with the RAPTOR IO module. Let’s take a closer look at it!
The MUTINY RAPTOR IO is an expansion module that attaches to the back of the V-RAPTOR body, multiplying the camera’s input/output and power ports. The accessory connects directly to the camera’s EXT port via a low-profile 9-pin right-angled cable.
The module integrates a CoreSWX battery plate, and two different options are available: V-mount or Gold Mount. The battery plate is user-interchangeable and features two D-Tap outputs to power additional camera accessories.
The list of I/O and power ports provided by the MUTINY RAPTOR IO module is quite extensive, including:
Furthermore, an anti-drain mode can be activated using a switch on the module’s right side to prevent draining the battery when leaving a brick attached to the camera.
Overall, the MUTINY RAPTOR IO only adds about 315g/11.1oz to your camera build and, according to the manufacturer, is currently undergoing RED’s approval procedure to become an officially certified accessory.
The RAPTOR IO port expander and power module is now available to pre-order exclusively from MUTINY’s website. The official retail price is set at $1,200 for both battery mount options. According to the manufacturer, the first batch of units should start shipping in December 2022.
