The CAME-TV V-Mount battery plate that’s just been announced has been designed to enhance their Prodigy and Argos line of two-handed gimbals.
The CAME-TV Prodigy and Argos gimbals are 2 of the company’s many gimbal stabiliser systems, which very closely resemble the Ronin and Ronin-M respectively. They are both powered using rechargeable 18650 batteries that fit into the Ronin-esque 2-screw battery caddy. However, their newly announced battery plate could be prove to be a practical upgrade.
The new CAME-TV V-Mount battery plate hooks onto the main column/pan axis of the stabiliser just like the original batteries, but offers the longer battery power of V-Mount style batteries for longer uninterrupted shooting sessions.
Beyond the extended battery life, the main advantage of powering the gimbal with a high-capacity V-Mount battery is that you can use the D-Tap to also power the camera itself with the use of the appropriate adapter. This would also make the camera itself lighter, which could be an advantage when balancing the system. On the flip side, though, camera batteries can prove useful for counteracting the front weight of a heavy lens, so it really depends on your setup.
Both of these gimbals already feature a D-Tap port on the bottom of the camera carriage to facilitate powering other accessories, such as wireless follow focus systems. You could, therefore, potentially use a single V-Mount battery to power 3 devices: gimbal, camera and another accessory.
There is also a discount available when you purchase the CAME-TV V-Mount battery adapter along with one of their compact V-Mount batteries. You can find more information on their website.
