Alongside the launch of the compact LUMIX S9 camera, Panasonic also released their most compact full-frame lens: the LUMIX S 26mm F/8. This manual focus lens has a fixed aperture and is designed to replace your body cap while still allowing you to capture images on the go. So, let’s take a closer look at this fun prime lens!

Panasonic has just released their newest “mini S5 II” full-frame mirrorless camera, the LUMIX S9. This very compact camera can capture footage in 6K Open Gate at up to 30 frames per second, in DCI 4K/4K UHD at up to 60P, and in Full HD at up to 180P.

For content creators who want to stay as compact as possible or prefer to be ready to shoot 24/7, Panasonic also introduced an interesting little lens: the LUMIX S 26mm F/8.

Panasonic LUMIX S 26mm F/8 – features

The LUMIX S 26mm F/8 lens is an L-mount lens compatible with full-frame cameras. It measures only 2.6 x 0.7 inches/67.1 x 18.1mm and weighs 2oz/58g. Except for the lens elements, this lens is made entirely of plastic.

The LUMIX S 26mm F/8 lens is an entirely manual lens with no autofocus and a fixed aperture of F/8. The goal of this lens is primarily to replace your body cap, allowing you just to grab your camera and shoot without having to grab and mount a lens to your camera.

Lens design

According to Panasonic, the LUMIX S 26mm F/8 has an 80-degree field of view. The lens design consists of five elements in five groups, including one UED lens element to reduce ghosting and flare.

The minimum focusing distance is 9.8″/24.9cm. Please note that it is not compatible with lens filters and lens caps.

Price and availability

The Panasonic LUMIX S 26mm F/8 will be available by the end of June 2024 for $197/€213.
