Touchscreen editing on compatible devices might become more popular in years to come. Be it dealing with videos, photos, or sound material, this kind of editing might not be everyone’s cup of tea, yet, cannot be completely ignored. In today’s poll, we are interested in finding out if this type of workflow is something you will be considering.
Many of us edit videos/photos/sound material for a living, although we might all be on different levels, meaning, some of us are acting as “one-man-band filmmakers”, while others are sitting in dedicated studios dealing with mountains of rushes. I can’t help but think that touchscreen editing might be a good solution for those who are traveling with their Apple iPad Pro or Microsoft equivalents and need fast turnover while working.
Recently, my colleague Nino visited the Apple UK headquarters for an event where touchscreen editing was heavily promoted by the company. To be more precise, Final Cut Pro 2 for iPad Pro (M4 chip) is fully optimized for touchscreen editing and we can’t wait to try it at our office.
What are we looking for when editing? As an independent filmmaker, I would say, accuracy, speed, and stability. When those three requirements have been met, I’m happy to explore the world of touchscreen editing and see if it is actually for me.
BUT, more importantly, what about you guys? Is touchscreen editing something you are interested in exploring? If not, why? Is it the available devices for such a workflow that are holding you off, or is the idea itself not appealing enough?
