Portkeys MT22DS Production Monitor Introduced

Portkeys introduced the new MT22DS 21.5″ production monitor during NAB 2023. We talked to Daniel Resendez from Portkeys about the monitor specs and the features that make this monitor special.

Portkeys are known for making affordable on-camera monitors (in case you missed it, you can watch and read our reviews of the PT5 and LH5P), so it’s interesting to see their brand new 21.5″ production monitor, the MT22DS. The panel has a resolution of 1920×1080 pixels and a brightness of 1000 nits. It is made of an all-aluminum shell for lightweight and sturdy construction.

Dual-Screen feature

One special feature of the MT22DS monitor is its Dual-Screen feature (hence the letters “DS” in the product name). There are 2 SDI inputs and 1 HDMI input and you can display two video sources side-by-side. These inputs can either be SDI1+SDI2 or SDI+HDMI. While in Dual-Screen mode, you can also rotate the video by 90 degrees for vertical video filming. There are also SDI- and HDMI outputs available. All video inputs are located on the back of the monitor, facing downwards.

You can find pretty much all common assist features like false color, peaking, waveform, vector scope, and histogram. There are function buttons on the front of the monitor that allow you to program any feature to them.

Accessory mounting and power

What’s also special about this monitor, is the powering options for the monitor and accessories. You can attach two V-mount battery plates to the back of the monitor. When power is supplied, either through the V-mount plates or AC power, there are NP-F battery dummies on the back of the monitor, to which you can attach your wireless video transmitters or receivers. The accessories are directly powered through the battery dummies so you don’t need a mounting arm and power cable for your accessories. You can also rotate those NP-F dummies so the orientation of your antennas is optimal.

There are also many 1/4″-20 threads on the housing for mounting additional accessories. The monitor has three VESA mounting positions on the backplate, two are covered by the V-mount plates and one is used to mount the included kickstand by default. There is also an optional VESA mount for attaching the monitor to C-stands available.

The MT22DS has a very slim profile that makes it easy to pack. This monitor also offers support for color calibration with the use of X-Rite probes.

At the time of writing this article, the monitor ships within 45 days and costs $1,749.

You can find more information about the MT22DS Monitor on the manufacturer’s website.
