Premiere Pro 25.5 Adds 90+ Built-In Effects, Transitions, and Animations, Plus Faster Playback

Adobe is rolling out Premiere Pro 25.5 with more than 90 new GPU-accelerated effects, transitions, and motion presets built directly into the NLE, alongside timeline and playback improvements, codec acceleration, and companion updates to After Effects.

Premiere Pro 25.5 just arrived, timed with IBC, and folds the Film Impact library into the app, eliminating extra plug-ins and subscriptions. Editors can drag and drop modern dissolves, blurs, wipes, glitches, kaleidoscope, and 3D transitions, then customize parameters without breaking real-time playback.

New motion tools built in

The new collection spans transitions, effects, and text or graphic animations that play back in real time on the GPU, even after heavy tweaking. Adobe also adds a β€œSurprise Me” button to generate endless variations for each effect, and an optional Film Impact Dashboard under Window β†’ Extensions with live previews of the entire set.

Color and texture enhancements

Editors can now apply photorealistic bokeh, volumetric rays, halation, and glints, plus shaped vignettes and channel-wise shifts to correct mixed lighting. Additional utilities include curve editors, color pickers, chromatic aberration, and custom blend modes. A realistic camera-shake effect can add handheld texture to locked-off shots.

Text and graphics: complex looks, no keyframes

Static 2D titles can be turned into 3D animated elements with depth and shadows in seconds. Preset motions let graphics grow, pop, and sweep without round-tripping to After Effects, saving time on quick social or doc edits.

Timeline quality-of-life upgrades

Premiere’s sequence view now keeps audio waveforms, keyframes, and markers visible while dragging clips or performing ripple, roll, and rate-stretch edits. Multiple fades can be added or adjusted simultaneously across selected clips. Multithreaded audio conforming and peak-file generation speed up waveform creation.

Playback and format performance

Adobe is targeting sub-0.1-second start times for playback. Hardware acceleration arrives for 10-bit 4:2:2 H.264/HEVC on NVIDIA Blackwell GPUs, Canon Cinema RAW Light playback and exports see up to 10Γ— speed-ups, and ARRIRAW HDE gets native support. Adobe also notes rewritten MKV handling, improved PNG, DNxHR, and DNxHD metadata and data range, and support for importing 16-bit PNG.

Small fixes that add up

Editors can set default fonts for text and captions, use new shortcuts to toggle track mute and solo based on track targeting, and rely on a fix for last-frame keyframing behavior in Effect Controls. New Sequence Color Tabs support visual organization across complex timelines.

After Effects 25.5 companion update

After Effects adds Quick Offset for shifting groups of keyframes or layers with one drag, smoother comp-viewer zooming and navigation, and caching improvements for faster preview.

Who is it for?

Editors who live inside Premiere will benefit most: social teams needing fast stylized motion, documentary cutters looking for tasteful dissolves and glows, and commercial workflows that juggle RAW and Long GOP codecs. The integrated library reduces reliance on plug-ins, and the playback improvements address day-to-day speed bumps.

Availability

Adobe says the new motion tools and improvements are part of Premiere Pro 25.5 starting September 10, included in existing plans. After Effects 25.5 ships alongside.

If you try the new effects, which categories feel production-ready for your work, and what would you still prefer to build in After Effects?
