I got a call to bring my Red Rock Micro Eyespy Deluxe rig to the set of Showtime’s Californication last night while they were shooting at the Whiskey A Go Go Bar in Hollywood. I only had a short time to hang on set while they were shooting an upcoming episode. They have been shooting with a Bolex for some of the 2nd Unit work on the show and were running short on lens choices. They have been toying with the idea of testing the Canon 7D for a while. Ironically it was not the camera they were so keen to use. It was the Red Rock Micro rig. They already had the Canon 7D and lenses. It was the rig they had yet to see. Most working pros in the industry have yet to really get into the HDSLR scene. Now that “House” has aired with praise, we will see HDSLR’s work in some way on most major productions. They are here to stay !
