SIGMA Aizu Prime Line Introduced - A Lineup of 12 Large-Format T1.3 Lenses

SIGMA just announced a new line of large-format cinema lenses, the Aizu Prime Line, and according to the company, it is the world’s first lineup of large-format cinema lenses to achieve an aperture value of T1.3 across all focal lengths. Let’s take a closer look.

Here is a small but unexpected surprise: SIGMA has just unveiled a new lineup of 12 cine lenses, all featuring a consistent T1.3 aperture throughout the full range from 18mm to 125mm. The initial release includes 8 lenses spanning focal lengths from 25mm to 75mm, covering essential cinematic production needs. These will be followed by 18mm and 21mm wide-angle lenses, as well as 100mm and 125mm telephoto lenses.

Key features

The following information is taken from SIGMA’s press release:

Consistent T1.3 aperture across all focal lengths: This will enable exceptionally shallow depth of field and graceful bokeh.

Optical design for cinema: All lenses in the Aizu Prime lineup feature an optical system exclusively developed for cinema applications. While maintaining modern sharpness, they avoid rigid or harsh depictions, delivering a natural, organic appearance. This design ensures quiet elegance and depth to the image, with distortion and focus breathing carefully minimised to maintain visual consistency, even in dynamic scenes.

Available mounts: PL Mount, Sony E-mount

Consistent look

According to SIGMA, this family of lenses ensures consistent color balance, contrast, and flare characteristics for creating a harmonious visual narrative throughout the entire lineup.

The large ⌀46.3mm image circle provides full coverage for full-frame and Super 35 formats, as well as the latest large-format cameras such as the ARRI ALEXA LF (Open Gate) and VistaVision systems.

Despite their large-format coverage and fast T1.3 aperture, the Aizu Prime lenses remain lightweight, offering a compact design. This combination of speed and mobility provides flexibility when working with Steadicam, gimbal, or handheld operations.

Support for ZEISS eXtended Data

The Aizu Prime lenses support ZEISS eXtended Data, providing real-time lens metadata during shooting. This feature also facilitates the export of distortion and shading correction data, simplifying workflows for VFX productions.
