At IBC 2025, we sat down to talk to Sonny Liu, a product manager at SIRUI, as the company just unveiled the Aurora 35mm f/1.4 lens, expanding their Aurora family, which previously consisted of a single 85mm f/1.4 model released in 2024 (review here). The new lens targets run-and-gun operations with a compact form factor weighing 490 grams. Let’s take a closer look.
SIRUI, established in 2001 in Guangdong, China, has grown from a tripod manufacturer to a comprehensive cinematography equipment company. (watch our factory tour here.) The company operates production facilities for anamorphic lenses and camera support systems, with an approach that centers on combining performance with affordability, targeting both emerging filmmakers and established professionals.
The Aurora 35mm f/1.4 full-frame lens represents SIRUI’s positioning in the hybrid lens market, designed for both photography and video applications. According to Sonny, the lens incorporates three aspherical elements to achieve size reduction while maintaining optical performance.
The lens features fast autofocus capabilities optimized for video work. SIRUI claims the lens delivers sharp performance wide open at f/1.4 across the entire image circle, with particular attention paid to corner sharpness compared to their existing 85mm model.
Furthermore, Sonny indicated that the Aurora family will expand beyond the current 35mm and 85mm focal lengths as he confirmed development of wider focal lengths for early 2026, along with longer telephoto options, though specific focal lengths were not disclosed.
SIRUI acknowledged that Aurora lens development requires extended timeframes for optical design and testing. The company emphasized their focus on optical quality and compact construction, factors that influence their development schedule. Sonny mentioned that 2026 will be an active year for lens releases across their product portfolio, though specific details about upcoming models were not provided during the IBC presentation.
The Aurora 35mm f/1.4 will launch with Sony E-mount initially, priced at $549 USD. SIRUI confirmed plans for additional mount options, including Canon RF, Nikon Z, and FUJIFILM X-mount variants, following their participation in various lens mount alliances.
Unlike previous SIRUI lens releases that utilized crowdfunding campaigns, the Aurora 35mm will be available through direct sales beginning September 29, 2025. (We will update this article accordingly.)

What do you think about SIRUI’s lenses? Do you use them for your productions? If so, what are you using, their spherical or anamorphic lenses? Please share your thoughts with us in the comment section below.
