SmalHD Gets Even Smaller With The 5.6" DP-SLR Monitor.

dpslr_hand

SmallHD sent out this Pre-NAB announcement for their new 5.6″ DP-SLR monitor. The new DP-SLR monitor is made of solid aluminum, weighs a mere ten ounces and has a 1280 X 800 picture resolution. SmallHD has their own batteries that will also work with the new 5.6″ monitor. I spoke with Reed Phillips from SmallHD yesterday, they are working on other battery options now and are looking for input on which way to go.
Pricing will be “similar to the SmallHD DP-1 monitor.” ( about $800US)

Agree with the folks about the price. This pricing makes absolutely no sense from the marketing point of view, people just won’t bother considering dslr version if they could get 9″ one for the same money.

I was anticipating this kind of announcement from smallHD, but in my dreams this monitor was $499-599, and I think this pricing should move from my dreams to reality. Then this DPSLR will become a good deal.

Btw, maybe they meant $800 for full package (with batteries etc.) cause full DP1 package costs a $1000.

the price is absolutely ridiculous, THE SAME! WTF? On that small lcd you wouldn’t see any details .. so, what is the point buying overpriced, small LCD, which is almost similar to build-in to the camera …..

I agree fully. Lets buy a monitor that cost more than your camera! Yay. This is just plain dumb. The market needs lower priced solutions not higher priced for less. That is what this HDSLR revolution is about.

very cool, i’ve been eyeing up the DP1 for a bit now. one thing confuses me though, why price the significantly smaller version the same as the clearly superior (8.9 inches vs. 5.6) DP1 monitor? should be priced closer to the new marshal to compete imho

I put that question to Reed over at smallHD and he claimed that they have designed the boards to work with the Canon 5D Mark II and the image would hold “true” in the monitor.
Thanks for the comment.
