The Sony BURANO Version 2.0 firmware update gets a release date, and it adds new recording formats, SDI output for monitoring, and improved metadata and monitoring. Letβs dive in!
The Sony BURANO was unveiled in September 2023 and features an 8.6K 35mm Full-Frame, Exmor RS CMOS sensor (35.9 x 24.0 mm), dual native ISO (800 and 3200), 16 stops of dynamic range, and shoots 8K up to 30 fps, 6K up to 60 fps, and S35 cropped 4K up to 120 fps. It’s also the world’s first PL-Mount camera with built-in IBIS along with IBIS and built-in ND. The BURANO includes a Sony E mount (lever lock type). Check out CineD’s lab tests here.
In November 2024, Sony released a firmware roadmap for their Cinema Line of cameras, including the BURANO, VENICE 2, FX3, FX30, and FX6. It detailed features they were planning on releasing for each camera, starting in 2025 and running through 2026. Many of the improvements and additions are based on user feedback and requests. Additionally, Sony released the BURANO Version 1.1 firmware update last summer.
A few of the key features and improvements found in the Sony BURANO Version 2.0 firmware update include new recording formats, 1.8x de-squeeze, SDI output, and improvements to monitoring and metadata.
The Sony BURANO Version 2.0 firmware update is set for release by March 2025 and will be available for download on both Mac and PC. Visit this page for more details, along with other improvements and enhancements in the Version 2.0 update.
