Teradek solutions include wireless video transmission systems, encoders and decoders, and cellular bonding technology for live streaming and IP video distribution. Recently, the company announced a new offline functionality that eliminates subscription barriers and internet dependency for on-set playback.
In a move that addresses long-standing concerns about connectivity and costs on film sets, Teradek has announced that their TV viewing app now supports local-only playback capabilities at no additional charge. The update transforms how video assists and on-set teams access and review footage during production.
The enhanced Teradek TV app, available through both the Apple App Store and Google Play, introduces optional proxy recording playback that operates entirely offline. Video Assist can now configure the app to access proxy recordings stored directly on a Teradek Serv 4K’s SD card, eliminating the traditional requirement for internet connectivity and subscription services.
This development addresses a critical pain point in many shoots, where reliable internet access on location can be inconsistent or prohibitively expensive. The local playback feature ensures that review and collaboration can continue, regardless of network conditions.
The implementation centers around the Teradek Serv 4K’s integrated proxy recording capabilities. Once configured, the system automatically generates proxy files that can be accessed by multiple devices on the same local network. All playback content remains encrypted, maintaining security protocols essential for protecting valuable footage during production.
Team members using the Teradek TV app on their mobile devices can seamlessly browse and playback recorded content without external data usage or streaming limitations. This creates a self-contained ecosystem that operates independently of external infrastructure.
The automatic proxy recording feature is fully supported for ARRI and RED camera platforms, with select Sony and Canon models also integrated into the workflow.
