Tilta Nucleus Nano II Firmware Update Adds Support for iPhone and More

Tilta Nucleus Nano II received a firmware upgrade that enables integration with the Blackmagic iOS app. This will allow users to pull focus on an iPhone with Tilta’s follow focus unit. Additionally, Wi-Fi control for the RED KOMODO has been announced in a “public-testing phase.” The other major improvement is support for Handwheel and DJI motor capability.

Recently we reviewed the Nucleus Nano II, and now it’s nice to see that Tilta is attempting to unify the focus-pulling tools that you use across your camera, gimbal, and iPhone. Each of these devices can require a different kind of connection, but the Nucleus Nano II has Bluetooth and Wi-Fi built into it. This means it can connect to a phone just as easily as a RED KOMODO. Tilta also works closely with DJI on accessories for the Ronin gimbals. So the Nano II can connect to Ronin via electronic contacts.

The iPhone integration revolves around the Blackmagic Camera app. You can control both Zoom and focus with it. The RED KOMODO integration allows for run/stop and focus. The video states that your KOMODO needs to be in ad hoc mode, but it doesn’t clarify if it will still function in infrastructure mode. (Infrastructure mode is when your camera connects to an existing network.) You’ll also need to unplug any other run/stop cables.

The DJI integration allows the Nano II handwheel to control a DJI motor. Tilta provides an adapter to connect to the side port on the Ronin.
