In a short YouTube video, Yuji Igarashi-san from FUJIFILM made a few announcements regarding a new firmware update for selected FUJIFILM cameras and the upcoming X Summit, so let’s have a look at what he had to say!
FUJIFILM’s X and GFX systems, including the GFX 100II, X-H2, and X-H2S that CineD has reviewed, have gained attention for their strong performance in both photography and video. With regular updates and new features, FUJIFILM continues to refine these systems to meet the needs of their users and not less importantly, fix some issues related to the behavior and performance of their current autofocus system.
In response to user feedback on improving autofocus, FUJIFILM is developing new firmware for the X-H2S, X-H2, and GFX 100II. The update will enhance subject tracking and face/eye detection stability when shooting video. (At this stage, it is not clear if these autofocus enhancements are also for taking photos).
In addition, given the popularity of the GFX 100II, X-H2, and X-H2S in video production, FUJIFILM is also adding two new features for video: F-Log2 C, which offers a wide color gamut, and timecode synchronization via Ambient Lockit devices through a wired connection.
Further enhancements are being considered, but the firmware update is expected to be released in November.
This year, there have been two X Summits: the first in February in Tokyo and the second in May in Sydney. The third X Summit 2024 is scheduled for October 14 at 1 PM (GMT) and will be held at the CLAY Studio, FUJIFILM’s design center in Tokyo. The theme is “Design,” covering everything from product design to production engineering, with new insights from a design perspective. More details will be forthcoming on the FUJIFILM X Series YouTube channel.
Which feature update are you most excited about in FUJIFILM’s upcoming firmware release? What design aspects would you like to see FUJIFILM focus on during the upcoming X Summit in Tokyo? Let us know in the comments!

A camera was put in my hands at 16, and I’ve been taking photographs ever since. Before moving to Vienna, I worked as a photographer on film sets, telling stories as they unfolded behind the scenes. Since then, I’ve focused on immersive theater, both as a photographer and an actor. I am the photographer for the award-winning Nesterval ensemble, documenting the energy and atmosphere of their performances. I’m a teller of stories. Stories hold my interest. I’ll take on any project with a story to tell.
