BOYA Magic – AI-Powered “Four-in-One” Wireless Microphone on Kickstarter

BOYA Magic - AI-Powered "Four-in-One" Wireless Microphone on Kickstarter

BOYA, a Chinese company specialising in manufacturing audio equipment, has unveiled the BOYA Magic wireless microphone, which is now available on Kickstarter. Early-bird pricing is set at $79. Although those are the last hours of the campaign, we thought it was worth mentioning it, even to see the direction all those small audio devices are about to take.

The BOYA Magic’s primary feature is its ability to transform between four distinct recording configurations without the need for additional equipment. These modes include wireless lavalier, handheld interview stick, desktop microphone, and on-camera configurations. In short, this is a four-mode, one-device solution that hopefully delivers good recording results in every mode it tackles.

According to BOYA, this modular approach addresses a common issue for content creators who typically require multiple microphones for different shooting scenarios. The microphone measures 13mm thick and weighs 7g, enabling it to transition between lavalier, handheld, desktop, and on-camera usage modes.

Technical Specifications

The BOYA Magic incorporates a 144dB dynamic range and a 20Hz-20kHz frequency response. It records at 48 kHz/24-bit resolution with an 80dB signal-to-noise ratio. It’s truly a pity not to see a 32-bit float option, but probably there is a limit of what this device can handle space-wise.

AI Features and Controls

According to the company, the microphone features AI-powered noise cancellation and intelligent audio processing. The BOYA Magic includes a smart limiter with a -12dB safety track to prevent audio clipping. Speaking of which, “noise canceling” on many of those devices was always the “weakest link”, simply because it incorporated a single “noise stamp” that needed to be cancelled. With this device, BOYA is claiming that the AI algorithm was “trained on 700K+ noise samples,” so it will be interesting to see how it handles different situations and noise in multiple environments.

Control is managed through a mobile application, with the charging case also providing microphone control functions.

Availability

The BOYA Magic Kickstarter campaign seems to be successful, raising €220,148 so far with 2,297 backers behind it. Early-bird pricing commences at $79 (MSRP $90). The campaign concludes today, 18 June 2025, with delivery anticipated later this year.

Analysis

Like with many other companies, the BOYA Magic represents an advancement in wireless microphone design, prioritising versatility and portability. For content creators who operate in diverse recording scenarios, the transformable design could supplant several dedicated microphones while preserving audio quality.

The modular approach effectively addresses practical workflow challenges, although its real-world performance has yet to be demonstrated. The Kickstarter response suggests a market demand for adaptable audio tools tailored to contemporary content creation processes.

At the end of every crowdfunding-related article, we remind you to be aware of the risks when backing a project on a crowdfunding platform. Also, please read the platform’s use and remember that there can be significant delays when delivering the product. Some projects don’t get delivered at all.

What do you think about the “ALL-IN-ONE” approach for audio recording devices? Does it make Sense or defeat the purpose of recording audio at the best possible quality per assignment? Please share your thoughts with us in the comment section below.
