iodyne Expands Pro Data with Firmware 1.6 and Previews Pro Mini

At IBC 2025, iodyne announced Pro Data firmware 1.6, bringing full cross-platform support to Mac, Windows, and Linux systems, while also previewing the long-awaited Pro Mini. The updates aim to simplify collaborative workflows and address real-world performance needs across production and post. Let’s dive in and see what’s new with iodyne Pro Data 1.6.

In our video interview at the show, Mike Gitig from iodyne outlined how the new firmware and hardware extensions are designed to eliminate bottlenecks and meet the demands of modern, mixed-platform pipelines.

Cross-platform workflows with iodyne Pro Data 1.6

Until now, iodyne’s advanced Pro Data features were only fully available on macOS (check out our review of the iodyne Pro Data here). Firmware version 1.6, releasing October 15, 2025, extends those same capabilities to Windows, and launches Pro Data for Linux. The cross-platform compatibility of Mac and Windows includes Multi-Reader Sharing, which allows multiple users to securely access the same data in read-only mode, and Storage Handoff, enabling teams to move seamlessly between systems without duplicating or re-ingesting media.

This change is especially relevant for productions where each department favors different platforms, such as Mac for dailies, Linux for VFX, and Windows for broadcast. By maintaining a single encrypted source of truth, Pro Data 1.6 reduces redundant copies and saves time across the workflow.

Focus on sustained throughput

During our discussion, Mike emphasized that iodyne measures storage performance by sustained throughput rather than peak speeds. This ensures predictable results when capturing directly from multiple cameras, an increasingly common requirement in live, virtual, or multi-camera productions.

At IBC, iodyne showcased RED Connect workflows that allow direct camera capture over IP to Pro Data, bypassing media cards and proxies. In lab testing, the setup sustained high-resolution multi-camera recording without frame drops. A Softron multicam rig was also demonstrated, recording up to sixteen ProRes streams in a compact configuration ideal for fly-kits or live events.

Introducing Pro Mini: the smart drive

Alongside the firmware, iodyne previewed Pro Mini, a portable “smart drive” designed for on-set and mobile use. The device addresses common SSD limitations such as thermal throttling, delivering around 3000 MB/s sustained read and write speeds. It also incorporates RAID-6 protection, providing redundancy against drive failure.

Pro Mini features an e-ink digital label for easy identification, customizable via iodyne’s upcoming fleet management system. Users can assign project names, status indicators, or warnings such as “Do not unplug” without opening the drive. Integration with Apple Find My and Google equivalents further enhances security, while Tap-to-Unlock encryption keeps data safe in the field.

Designed for real production challenges

Whether in large studio workflows or smaller independent shoots, iodyne’s focus is on reliability and predictability. Their solutions are definitely high-end and so is the pricing, but by tackling sustained throughput, platform fragmentation, and practical drive management, both Pro Data 1.6 and Pro Mini address recurring pain points for media professionals.

IBC 2025 offered a first look, but with firmware rolling out in October and Pro Mini expected to ship by the end of the year, many teams may soon test whether these solutions streamline their daily production and post challenges.
