Preamble

CineD (cined.com) is an independent trade publication for professional filmmakers, published by cinema5D GmbH, based in Vienna, Austria. Since 2008, our editorial team has covered camera technology, production tools, and the film industry through dedicated editions in English, Japanese, and Spanish. This charter sets out the binding principles of our editorial work. It exists to safeguard the editorial independence, quality, and credibility of CineD toward our readers, our team, and our business partners.

1. Scope

This charter applies to everyone working editorially for CineD, whether employed or freelance, across all language editions and all channels (website, video, podcast, newsletter, and digital products built on our content).

2. Editorial Independence

The editorial team works independently. Decisions about topic selection, weighting, content, and timing of publication rest exclusively with the editorial team. Manufacturers, advertisers, distribution partners, and other third parties have no influence on editorial content. The company’s commercial interests never justify interference with our reporting.

3. Separation of Editorial and Commercial Content

Editorial content and paid content are strictly separated. Paid or sponsored content is clearly and unmistakably labeled as such. Editorial content dominates in proportion to paid content and advertising.

CineD lab tests, measurements, and reviews are never sponsored and cannot be bought. Test results, ratings, and purchase recommendations are based exclusively on the editorial and measurement work of our team and the CineD Lab. Affiliate links have no influence on content or ratings and are disclosed transparently.

4. Journalistic Diligence

The editorial team is committed to accuracy, objectivity, and verifiability. Facts are checked, sources are named, and our own measurement and testing methods are disclosed. News and commentary or personal assessment are kept recognizably separate. Errors are corrected promptly and transparently once identified; substantial corrections are noted in the affected article.

5. Test Equipment and Manufacturer Relations

Test equipment is accepted on loan and returned after testing, or purchased at market conditions. Accepting money or benefits in kind in exchange for coverage is prohibited. Embargoes may be accepted; they never come with any commitment regarding content.

6. Use of Artificial Intelligence

AI applications are used at CineD exclusively in a supporting role and under journalistic duty of care, for example for research, transcription, translation support between our language editions, and making our editorial archive accessible. AI does not replace editorial work: no article is published in predominantly AI-generated form, every publication passes human editorial review, and final responsibility for content always rests with the editorial team.

CineD’s digital products that use AI are based exclusively on editorial content created and verified by CineD, and they cite their sources. They make existing journalistic work accessible; they do not generate independent journalistic content without editorial control.

7. Fundamental Rights and Fairness

Our reporting respects fundamental rights and human dignity. Discrimination based on gender, origin, religion, sexual orientation, age, or disability has no place in CineD’s content. Where journalistically appropriate, subjects of criticism are given the opportunity to respond.

8. Qualification and Professional Development

CineD ensures that editorial work is carried out or supervised by qualified journalists with relevant subject-matter expertise. The editorial team pursues continuous professional development, including full access to our education platform MZed, participation in industry events, and ongoing exchange within our international editorial network.

9. Corrections and Complaints

Notices of errors and complaints can be addressed to the editorial team at any time via our published contact address. All submissions are reviewed and answered; justified complaints lead to correction or clarification in accordance with Section 4.

10. Validity and Amendments

This charter is jointly upheld by the management and the editorial team. Amendments require the approval of the management after consulting the editorial team. The charter is communicated to everyone working editorially for CineD and forms the basis of our collaboration.
