Accsoon F-C01 Wireless Follow Focus System Released

Accsoon F-C01 Wireless Follow Focus System Released

Accsoon has launched yet another handy filmmaking device: the Accsoon F-C01 wireless follow focus system. It consists of two parts, the motor and a hand wheel, and seems to be a very compact solution for filmmakers who are on the go a lot. So let’s take a closer look at it, shall we?

At first glance, the new Accsoon F-C01 labeled remote follow focus system has a lot in common with solutions like the Tilta Nucleus Nano which, again, consists of a motor and a hand wheel. But of course, it’s always nice to have options.

The Accsoon F-C01 can be used wirelessly or wired, and the handwheel can be mounted on the camera in question or used as a more traditional remote control handwheel off-camera.

Using a so-called Frequency Hopping Spread Spectrum (FHSS) system enables the Accsoon F-C01 system to switch channels hundreds of times per second, ensuring a reliable wireless connection between motor and hand unit. The whole system operates on the 915 MHz spectrum.

The system comes with a quick-release mounting plate for the handwheel unit, so you can mount it anywhere you like on your rig or gimbal. Also included is a 15mm rod complete with a mounting plate, so it’s easy to rig it to your existing camera cage (in case it doesn’t sport a 15mm rod mount already).

A single Sony-type NP-FW50 battery is needed to power the hand unit (which then can power the motor via USB-C). The basic kit does not include batteries, but you can get a kit with 2 batteries and a USB-charger included as well. The motor accepts 5-16.8V of DC power as an input allowing it to be run from USB power, accessory ports or even full-sized 14.8v camera battery bricks.

The motor can be calibrated manually or automatically (in which case it will ensure to not damage the lenses hard stops). Accsoon also claims that the F-C01 motor unit sports a quite high torque force (0.35 N.m, up to 225 rpm) for driving even big cine lenses without problems.

Specifications

Accsoon claims a line-of-sight range of 100m (350 ft) with a latency less than 10ms for the F-C01 system. The motor weighs 100g and is 53.5 x 104 x 32mm in size while the hand unit weighs 110g and is 79 x 73 x 55mm in size.
