ARRI Camera Companion App Released - Remote Control Tool for ARRI Cameras

ARRI has officially released the ARRI Camera Companion App, a customizable remote control tool for ARRI cameras, now available for iPhone, iPad, and Apple Silicon Macs. The app allows users to control one or multiple cameras over WiFi or a set network using a fully modular, drag-and-drop interface. It supports a wide range of camera functions including recording, playback, white balance, frame rate, ND filters, lens control, and more.

We first covered the app during its beta launch in 2022, when ARRI introduced it alongside the ALEXA 35. At the time, it offered a limited but promising feature set for remote access. Now officially out of beta, the app arrives with full support for five ARRI camera models, flexible subscription tiers, and major upgrades based on feedback from thousands of users during the testing phase.

For a closer look at how it all works, ARRI put together this official walkthrough video.

ARRI Camera Companion App versions

Arri offers 3 versions of the Camera Companion App.

  • Demo (Free)
  • Standard
  • Premium

The Demo version includes basic single-camera control, menu access, and a simulated camera for testing layouts. It’s a solid entry point if you want to explore the interface before connecting to real gear.

The Standard tier unlocks full control of up to two cameras and gives access to a wide range of settings. You can customize your layout using drag-and-drop tiles and save setups per project. Pricing is $4.99 per month or $49.00 per year.

The Premium tier adds support for unlimited cameras, multiple tabs, MIDI controller input, CDL-based live grading, and remote FIZ control via cforce motors. It’s built for professionals managing more complex multi-cam environments or broadcast workflows. Premium pricing comes in at $39.00 per month or $399.00 per year.

Yes, it’s a subscription model, which may be a sticking point for some. It’s hard not to notice that everything these days seems to come with a monthly fee. That said, this isn’t a face-swap app or a bait-and-switch trial—ARRI is targeting working professionals with a tool designed to enhance real-world on-set workflows. You can try both paid tiers for free, and the Demo version already includes enough features to get you started.

Supported cameras

At launch, the app supports:

  • ALEXA 35
  • ALEXA Mini LF
  • ALEXA Mini
  • AMIRA
  • ALEXA 265

Camera features include control of recording options, frame rate, ND, shutter, exposure index, white balance, timecode, looks, playback, and more. Advanced features like video parameter adjustment and CDL grading are limited to specific cameras like the ALEXA Mini and AMIRA.

Modular interface and layouts

The biggest upgrade from the beta is the interface itself. You can build personalized layouts by dragging functional tiles—such as ISO, FPS, white balance, and playback—into a layout that suits your workflow. These layouts are saved per project and can be tailored to each user or shooting situation.

Premium subscribers can create multi-tab setups, allowing different pages for playback, camera A, camera B, lens controls, or whatever grouping works for your production. You can also create grouped tiles for SDI outputs and MVF functions.

You can add unlimited user buttons and assign them to almost any camera function. Trigger them directly or group them for quick access to monitor and viewfinder settings.

ARRI Camera Companion App workflow enhancements

  • Project-based layout saving
  • Simulated camera mode
  • Quick camera matching
  • Independent interfaces per device
  • Instant adjustments from monitor stations
  • Frame grabs and shareable previews

Each project saves its unique layout and camera connections, making it easy to bounce between scenes or clients without reconfiguring. A built-in simulated camera mode lets you build and test layouts without a camera, which is useful for preproduction or training.

When working with multiple cameras, you can match key settings across the board with just a few taps. Different users can connect to the same camera with separate devices and customized interfaces. For example, a DIT can monitor signal paths and looks while a 1st AC adjusts focus tools, all independently.

The app also includes a frame grab feature. You can trigger a grab, review it in a built-in gallery, and share it via iOS apps or file exports. Grabs are saved locally through the Files app on your device.

MIDI and lens control

The Premium tier unlocks MIDI support, letting you assign camera functions to any MIDI-enabled hardware. That includes faders, buttons, or even foot pedals. It’s a great option for DITs or studio builds where physical control surfaces are part of the setup.

With ARRI’s cforce motors, the app also allows control of focus, iris, and zoom. You can initiate motor calibration and adjust settings remotely, which is especially handy for drones, gimbals, and remote rigs.

Connectivity options

The app supports both direct and network-based connections. Solo operators can connect straight to a camera in WiFi host mode. Larger productions can link all cameras to a central router and manage them within a shared network. You can switch between cameras in your project using the camera switcher tile, available on iOS.

An app for pros

ARRI’s Camera Companion App seems like much more than a remote menu. At the very least, I’d call it a ‘professional remote menu’ – something intended for use by multiple pro users simultaneously for very distinct purposes and not just an easier way of changing ISO from across the room.

It’s a fully featured camera control system designed to keep production crews nimble, organized, and in sync. With flexible layout tools, cross-device control, and thoughtful integration with professional workflows, it’s clearly built for real-world sets.

You can download the app now from the Apple App Store and explore subscriptions, setup guides, and compatibility details at arri.com/cca.
