Blackmagic Design DaVinci Resolve 18.5 Public Beta 5 Released

Blackmagic Design DaVinci Resolve 18.5 Public Beta 5 Released

Far from taking a summer break, the busy folks at Blackmagic Design released another update for the beta version of DaVinci Resolve 18.5. This follows a big update in May as well as a minor one in June. Seems like they are sticking to a monthly schedule at the moment.

BRAW support for Panasonic GH6

One of the main features found in the DaVinci Resolve 18.5 Beta 5 update is the inclusion of BRAW 3.3. support for Panasonic GH6 cameras. See our review of the GH6 here:

Wide gamut support in Fusion

Another new addition is the support of the DaVinci Wide Gamut color space in Fusion. This gives users a more accurate color representation when creating visual effects or motion graphics. Improvements have also been made to the high and low soft controls in DaVinci Wide Gamut. This allows finer adjustment and more sensitivity for more precise results.

Text+ element

The Text+ element merging has also been improved, for example when using a gradient fill. This allows a smoother and more realistic blend in the transition from one file to another according to Blackmagic Design.

Audio improvements

On the Fusion page, the audio encoder bit rate can now be set per track. This means that every track gets higher quality audio rather than sharing the audio bit rate across tracks. When using the Fairlight Audio Accelerator, playback should be better now, especially when using the fast forward and rewind functions.

Video output clean feed

According to Blackmagic Design, this update also improves the video output when running the clean feed feature on Mac OS for Studio users. You can now have a full-screen view of the video output without the menu bar obstructing the view.

Pricing and availability

You can download the DaVinci Resolve 18.5 Beta 5 directly from Blackmagic Design’s website or from retailers such as B&H and CVP.
