Blackmagic Design has released Video Assist 3.22, bringing Blackmagic RAW recording capabilities to Sony FX3, FX30, and Leica SL3-S cameras. The update also includes performance improvements and stability enhancements for the 5″ and 7″ 12G HDR models.
Blackmagic Design continues expanding the codec compatibility of its Video Assist monitor-recorder lineup. The latest 3.22 software update adds Blackmagic RAW recording support for three additional camera systems: Sony’s FX3 and FX30, plus the recently announced Leica SL3-S. This update specifically targets the Blackmagic Video Assist 5″ 12G HDR and 7″ 12G HDR models.
The update delivers three primary improvements. First, it enables Blackmagic RAW recording from Sony FX3 and FX30 cameras, expanding the codec’s reach into Sony’s Cinema Line ecosystem. Second, it adds the same capability for the Leica SL3-S, Leica’s hybrid cinema camera announced earlier this year. Finally, the update includes general performance and stability improvements across both Video Assist models.
Blackmagic RAW offers filmmakers a professional codec option that balances image quality with manageable file sizes. The format provides control over ISO, white balance, and highlight recovery in post-production while maintaining efficient workflow integration. For Sony FX3 and FX30 shooters, this represents a significant codec upgrade option beyond the cameras’ internal recording formats.
The installer package requires macOS 15.0 Sequoia or macOS 14.1 Sonoma for Mac users, or Microsoft Windows 11 for Windows systems.
The Blackmagic Video Assist 3.22 update is available now as a free download for existing Video Assist 5″ 12G HDR and 7″ 12G HDR owners. The update utility can be downloaded directly from Blackmagic Design’s support page.
