Canon T2i. 24fps HD Video for Under 1K.

Canon T2i. 24fps HD Video for Under 1K.

Today, Canon announced the kick ass new Rebel T2i. Yes, it will shoot 24fps. Yes, it has manual exposure controls. Yes, it’s under a grand! This is some great news for anyone holding back on buying one of these killer new DSLR’s. I think I just heard a nail going into a coffin over at Nikon. Here is a snip-it from the press release.

“The Rebel T2i DSLR captures video in both NTSC (National Television System Committee) and PAL (Phase Altering Line) standards at selectable frame rates including Full HD 1920 x 1080 at 30 (29.97), 25 or 24 (23.976) fps, and HD 1280 x 720 or Standard Definition 640 x 480 quality video, at 60 (59.94) or 50 fps.”

I saw few of u guys; 7D owner get pissed of this..
well, u SHOULDN’T. 500D/T1i Owners should.

It’s never been done before by canon to release a new/improved product of the recent product (just like what Apple has always do every year.
Wait….EVERY YEAR???
CANON EOS 500D/T1i IS STILL A HALF-PLUS YEAR OLD WTF!!!

Then again,
it’s clear from the replied mail from Canon ( http://www.cined.com/viewtopic.php?f=39&t=9332&start=60#p71452 ) ..which said that they dont even think about developing a firmware for 500D at all. Keyword; At All.

Pretty sad though if someday 500D be proclaim as a “failed-product” :(

Correct me if there’s something wrong

thx

Guys, I don’t get the point here. Canon comes out with another great product with good video capabilities, and everybody complains. Would you prefer a company that do not make good products? I hope nobody is expecting today’s dslrs to keep their value forever. But if you bought a 500d or 7d recently, this camera does not take anything out of yours!! If you have a 7d just for video and don’t care about fast AF, 8fps, rugged body and so on, sell it and get a 550d, you’ll still have money in your pocket! One more product opens possibilities, does not degrade the cameras you own!!!

Guys, the 5D came out a couple of years ago! This is a new camera announced today. There is a difference. Its like buying a black and white TV and then a new set comes out 18 months later with color. Its technical model progress. Buyers of the T2i can feel all superior to all those 5D and 7D owners until the sad day that Canon announces the T3iSuperDeluxeWithCheese…

Hold the cheese.
I’m sure it looks a bit silly to lust over the new and grieve over the old. But selling a 5dmk2 before its value drops to half is reasonable. Not everybody needs the perilous DOF of a full frame lens.

Anyone have any idea of the sensor size? I’ve looked on the press release but can’t see any info.

APS-C, same as 7D and other Rebel models. The single processor may be an issue and I’m hoping that a less weather resistant camera body may be less prone to over heating.

Makes me regret buying a 7D 1 month ago. But I needed a camera this term, and the 7D was the best option for me at the time.

exacly what you did up to now. take great pictures and videos. Unless you bought it as an investment or for the pleasure of owning an object.

As for price, Amazon now lists it available for preorder for 899 or 999 including a lens.

They refresh the Rebel Line every year. The t1i came out about a year ago.

Chances are I’ll sell my 5dmk2 and get two of those instead. One key reason is that the 550 accepts the new SDXC (SD eXtended Capacity) cards which may get rid of the ridiculous 12 minute recording limit. It opens up event videography in a big way.

no, it doesn’t. 4Gb maximum file size limit is not a card issue, it’s a card FORMAT issue (fat32). This camera can record up to 30 mins at 720p, though.

Technically SDCX use the exFAT format, so the theorical file size limit would sit around billions of terabytes. I would’nt worry about file size limit personally…

It’s specs are very similar to the 7D, i am thinking to get a dslr camera i was thinking to get the 7d, but now that this camera was announced i think this will be a better option, what do you think?

Depends on your needs. The body won’t be as rugged as the 7D, but the specs are pretty close. If you are using it for video, this could be a way to spend more on glass and less on a camera. Thanks for the comment.

24, 25, 30 and 60 fps on a single digic 4 processor… and canon gives the middle finger to every 5D owner.

Tough luck. It would be great if they would release a firmware update for the 5D but there’s nothing to complain about with packing everything into a $800 camera.
