nanoFlash SD/HD Recorder

nanoFlash SD/HD Recorder

This SD/HD recorder will set you back a couple grand but if you have the cash to spare, this little gem could be worth every penny. The Nano Flash records directly from the HDMI output, giving you uncompressed 4:2:2 images. It will also let you record in multiple formats such as Native QuickTime for FCP, and MPEG HD with real time rendering of Blu-Ray Discs. The nanoFlash can also increase record times in HD DSLR’s with two hot swappable CF card slots.

The nanoFlash will also record 24-Bit/48K uncompressed audio, with two channel level meters and a headphone out to satisfy the sound geeks out there.

I don’t know why this product was listed under C5D news. Has Jared Abrams used the Nanoflash successfully with a 5D/7D/1D? My understanding is that the camera isn’t sending out full raster 1920×1080 via HDMI. The only discussion I’ve read dealing with getting a signal into a Nanoflash deals with the Magic Lantern hack.

A product like the Aja Ki Pro might be a better mate with the Canon cameras as it also has XLR in/out for audio along with dedicated volume controls that would eliminate the need for dual system record. The Nanoflash can also take analog audio in but uses a 3.5mm connector.

…still without full raster video over the HDMI output from the camera the point is moot.
