Desview V5 Released – 2800nits 5.5” Recording Monitor

The new Desview V5 is a 5.5-inch on-camera monitor with real-time recording and playback capabilities. It features a FullHD touchscreen display with a maximum brightness of 2800nits, supports 4K HDMI input and output, can store up to 150 LUTs, and create 1080p .MP4 files for instant playback. It retails for $369.

Desview is a Chinese manufacturer specialized in the production of on-camera, broadcast and wireless monitors. The company has just unveiled the V5, a new hybrid field monitor/recorder with a maximum screen brightness of 2800 nits.

While there are even brighter options available in this price range, like the 3000-nit FEELWORLD LUT5, what this product has to offer still looks quite remarkable. So let’s dive deeper into its specs!

Desview V5: ultra-bright on-camera monitor and recorder

The new Desview V5 features a 5.5-inch IPS display that can achieve a maximum brightness of 2800 nits, which, without any doubt, makes it daylight-viewable. The panel offers a resolution of 1920×1080, a contrast ratio of 1000:1 and a viewing angle of 178°. According to the manufacturer, the V5 covers 99.5% of the DCI-P3 color space.

The device has single HDMI input and output ports, both of which support 4K DCI and 4K UHD signals at up to 25 and 30fps respectively. The monitor can also act as a recorder by encoding these signals into 1080p .MP4 files that can be played back on the go.

Like any respectable on-camera monitor these days, the Desview V5 integrates some of the most common image monitoring tools (such as false color, focus peaking, zebra, histogram, vectorscope, grid lines and anamorphic de-squeeze) and can also store up to 150 custom LUTs. These can be loaded into the monitor via its SD card slot.

Power and design

On the back of the Desview V5, we can find a Sony NP-F battery-style plate, but the left side of the monitor also features a 7-24VDC barrel connector. A D-Tap to DC power adapter cable is also included, so you can power the monitor off a V-mount brick straight out of the box.

The device measures 154.4×92.1×29.8mm and should be pretty lightweight thanks to its all-aluminum alloy, which includes 1/4”-20 threaded mounting points both at the bottom and on the screen’s right side.

What’s in the box?

  • 5.5″ monitor/recorder
  • Cold-shoe monitor mount
  • HDMI Type A to Type A Cable
  • Micro HDMI Cable
  • D-Tap power cable
  • SD card
  • microSD card adapter
  • Cleaning cloth
