FEELWORLD LUT5 Released – 3000 Nits 5.5” HDMI Monitor

FEELWORLD recently introduced a new ultra-bright 5.5” HDMI monitor to their lineup. The FEELWORLD LUT5 features a 1920×1080 IPS touchscreen display with a peak brightness of 3000 nits. A NP-F style battery plate on the back can host a wireless video transmitter. It is now available on B&H for $239.

Chinese brand FEELWORLD is well-known for producing filmmaking tools that come at an affordable price given their specs, like the FEELWORLD F7 PRO that we covered a few months ago.

Being in need of a daylight viewable backup monitor, I recently purchased a FEELWORLD LUT7S PRO myself. The great thing about this monitor is that it features a Sony NP-F style plate on the back for attaching and powering accessories.

After months of usage, I can only complain about the plastic construction and the old-fashioned UI. Other than that, good bang for the buck.

FEELWORLD is now bringing a similar design to their 5” monitor lineup by introducing the LUT5. Let’s take a closer look.

FEELWORLD LUT5: overview

The FEELWORLD LUT5 features a 5.5-inch IPS touchscreen display with a resolution of 1920×1080. The monitor offers a viewing angle of 160° and a contrast ratio 1000:1. The LUT5 supports 4K HDMI-only input and output signals up to 30fps.

However, the biggest selling point of this monitor is its peak brightness of 3000 nits. This value is quite stunning for an entry-level monitor and it makes the LUT5 easily viewable even under the harshest lighting conditions.

I personally never experienced any issues shooting outdoor with the 2200-nit LUT7S PRO, so I expect this 5.5” model to perform even better.

Such a high level of brightness can be achieved thanks to a newly designed cooling system based on a low consumption fan. Furthermore, a built-in light sensor allows the unit to adjust its brightness automatically depending on the shooting environment.

Monitoring tools and up to 50 LUTs

The monitor is equipped with the most common monitoring tools, including Waveform, Vectorscope and Focus Peaking functions. Moreover, it comes loaded with some Log to Rec.709 LUTs for the most common gamma curves (like SLog2/3, V-Log and Log-C). Furthermore, the monitor can store up to 50 custom LUTs.

Power options and NP-F battery plate

The monitor can be powered via a Sony NP-F battery. According to the manufacturer, a NP-F970 should provide around 2.5 hours of working time. The LUT5 supports DC IN 12V power inputs and it can power accessories via a DC 8V output port.

The LUT5 inherits the NP-F style battery plate on the back from other monitors in the FEELWORLD lineup, like the LUT7S and F7 PRO. Additional accessories, like wireless video transmitters, can be attached and powered via this plate.

Given the size of the screen, this feature can come in handy when trying to keep your camera package light and compact. For example, it can be of great help for gimbal work.

Design and build-quality

The LUT5 measures 142x86x28 mm in size and it only weighs 270g. Since the monitor shares the same plastic construction of the LUT7S PRO, I expect it to feel a little cheap in the hands.

The alloy also has two 1/4”-20 threaded mounting points, one at the bottom and one on the right side of the unit.

Price and availability

Being a FEELWORLD product, the LUT5 can be purchased at a very accessible price. In fact, it is currently available on B&H for $239 (link below), while its official retail price on the FEELWORLD website is $279.99.

Included in the box are a Micro HDMI cable, a mini hot shoe mount and the operational manual.
