DJI has launched the Mic Mini 2S globally, the first mini wireless microphone from the company with internal recording on board: each 12-gram transmitter carries 14.5GB of storage for up to 28 hours of 24-bit audio or 32-bit float capture, and a single receiver now pairs with up to four transmitters across three generations of Mic Mini hardware. Two levels of AI noise canceling, three voice tone presets, and 34MB/s file offloading through the charging case round out a system that starts at 99 EUR.
When DJI released the Mic Mini 2 in the spring, the press materials already contained a teaser for an “S” variant with internal recording and a 4 TX + 1 RX configuration. That product is now here, and it is a more consequential release than the modest name change suggests. The original Mic Mini and its successor were, in workflow terms, streaming devices: if the link to the receiver dropped or the camera stopped rolling, the audio was gone. Onboard capture was the dividing line between the Mini series and the larger Mic 2 and Mic 3 systems, and that line has now moved.
Each Mic Mini 2S transmitter holds approximately 14.5GB of internal storage. DJI rates that at up to 28 hours of loop recording in the default 24-bit mode, dropping to roughly 22 hours when recording 32-bit float. The point is not headline capacity so much as redundancy: recording continues on the transmitter even when the connection to the receiver is lost, which turns the mic from a convenience into a genuine safety net for interviews, run-and-gun documentary work, and any situation where a take cannot be repeated.
The 32-bit float option is the more interesting half of that equation for anyone who has ever lost a shout or a laugh to a clipped waveform. Because the format carries enough headroom to survive extreme level swings, gain becomes a post decision rather than a set decision. That matters most for solo operators who are simultaneously framing, focusing, and hoping the levels hold.
Control over the recording is reasonably flexible. Internal capture can be started and stopped from either the transmitter or the receiver, and it can also be triggered automatically when the receiver battery runs low, which is a thoughtful piece of failure planning. Through the DJI Mimo app, users choose between raw files and processed files, with processed set as the default. The processed option applies the on-device audio treatment before writing the file, so the recording arrives ready to drop onto a timeline; the raw option preserves the unprocessed capture for anyone who would rather make those decisions in post.
Internal recording is only useful if offloading it is not a chore, and this is where DJI has done some quietly practical engineering. The Mic Mini 2S charging case supports direct file transfer from the transmitter at up to 34MB/s, which the company says is roughly twice the rate of the Mic 3. In DJI’s own example, a 30-minute 24-bit recording moves across in about eight seconds.
For a two-person shoot generating several hours of backup audio per day, that is the difference between a transfer step you plan around and one you barely notice. It also removes the temptation to skip the backup files entirely, which is the usual fate of redundant recordings that are awkward to retrieve.
The second structural upgrade is channel count. The Mic Mini 2S receiver connects to as many as four transmitters simultaneously, double what the Mic Mini 2 receiver managed, and a capability that until now lived in the Mic 3 tier. Output modes cover Mono (the default), Safety Track, Stereo, and Quadraphonic, with four independent audio tracks available for split-track editing and mixing. Roundtable podcasts, panel interviews, and small-group shoots are the obvious beneficiaries, and the ability to hand each speaker their own track without renting a proper multichannel bag is a meaningful cost argument.
Cross-generation compatibility is the part that will matter to existing owners. The new receiver accepts Mic Mini, Mic Mini 2, and Mic Mini 2S transmitters in any mix, delivering 48kHz 24-bit audio at a stated transmission range of up to 400 meters / 1,312 feet. In practice, anyone already holding a pair of Mic Mini transmitters can expand to a four-person setup by adding 2S units rather than replacing the kit. The DJI Mic Series Mobile Receiver also carries over: in green light mode it handles two transmitters from any of the three Mini generations at up to 300 meters / 984 feet, while blue light mode accepts Mic 2 or Mic 3 transmitters at up to 200 meters / 656 feet.
DJI has moved the noise reduction onto an NPU for what it describes as deep AI noise canceling, offered at two levels through the Mimo app. Basic targets indoor problems such as fans, air conditioning, and room reverb, while Strong is aimed at aggressive outdoor noise. According to DJI, both levels deliver better vocal clarity with less distortion than the Mic Mini 2, with the Strong setting reaching deeper. That is a manufacturer claim rather than a measurement, and heavy-handed noise processing has a long history of trading intelligibility for quiet, so it is one of the first things we intend to check now that a sample has arrived.
Gain handling comes in two adaptive modes. Clipping Control, enabled by default, automatically attenuates when levels spike, while Loudness Balance dynamically lifts quieter passages to maintain consistent output, which is aimed squarely at interviews and live streams where speakers sit at very different volumes. The three voice tone presets carried over from the Mic 3 playbook remain: Regular for balanced capture, Bright for added treble clarity, and Rich for a warmer, bass-weighted character.
Physically, very little has changed, which is the correct decision. The transmitter measures 28.58 x 28.04 x 13.52mm / 1.13 x 1.10 x 0.53in and weighs approximately 12 g / 0.42 oz with the magnetic front cover fitted, rising to about 15 g / 0.53 oz once the magnet is attached. That is one gram more than the Mic Mini 2, a rounding error against the internal storage it buys. The back clip is detachable and rotatable, so the capsule can be aimed correctly whether the unit is side-clipped, inverted, or worn through fabric on the magnet.
The magnetic front covers return, with eight color options sold separately, alongside a Mic Mini 2S Time Series cover set designed in collaboration with illustrator Victo Ngai. Worth noting for anyone upgrading: the 2S covers are redesigned and do not interchange with those from the Mic Mini 2. The receiver comes in at 46.50 x 29.61 x 19.32mm / 1.83 x 1.17 x 0.76in and roughly 19 g / 0.67 oz including the interface cover, while the Mobile Receiver measures 39.26 x 27.26 x 8.97mm / 1.55 x 1.07 x 0.35in at about 6.5 g / 0.23 oz. Transmitter and receiver both use Bluetooth 6.0; the Mobile Receiver stays on Bluetooth 5.3.
The charging case has been reworked to hold two transmitters, one receiver, one Mobile Receiver, two clips, two magnets, two windscreens, and a 3.5mm audio cable. That last part is the fix: the Mic Mini 2 case could not accommodate both the mobile receiver and the cable, so users ended up carrying loose accessories alongside a case designed to prevent exactly that.
Onboard storage and a faster processor have a cost, and it shows in the runtime figures. The transmitter is rated at approximately 11 hours and the receiver at around 10 hours, with the charging case extending the system to roughly 40 hours in total. The Mic Mini 2 quoted 11.5 hours, 10.5 hours, and 48 hours respectively, so the 2S surrenders about half an hour per unit and a full eight hours of case capacity. Charging takes approximately 70 minutes for both transmitter and receiver.
For most single-day shoots this is academic; 11 hours of transmitter runtime outlasts the crew. For multi-day travel work without reliable power, the reduced case reserve is worth factoring into the kit list.
The ecosystem story continues to be one of DJI’s strongest arguments. Mic Mini 2S transmitters connect natively to select Osmo cameras without a receiver in the chain, delivering 48kHz 24-bit audio directly to the Osmo Pocket 4P, Osmo Pocket 4, Osmo 360, Osmo Nano, and Osmo Action 6.
For creators already working inside that hardware, the appeal is straightforward: one fewer device to power, mount, and cable, at a sample rate well above what standard Bluetooth peripherals manage on most action cameras. Paired with internal recording on the transmitter, it also means the audio exists in two places even in the most stripped-down single-camera setup.
The Mic Mini 2S is available now from DJI and authorized retail partners in three configurations: the 2 TX + 1 RX kit with charging case at 189 EUR, the 1 TX + 1 RX kit at 99 EUR, and the 1 TX + 1 Mobile RX kit with charging case at 99 EUR. DJI has not published US pricing, and given that the Mic Mini 2 was not offered through official US channels at launch, and the regulatory pressure the company continues to face there, US availability remains an open question.
