Eddie AI, the assistant editor that quietly works behind the scenes to log your footage, dig out soundbites, and line up a rough cut, just got a big update. It now supports 30 languages across all its modes: ChatGPT, Rough Cut, Scripted, and A-roll logging. Let’s take a look.

If you’re not familiar with Eddie yet, it’s an AI-driven editing tool that plugs into your existing workflow (and that won CineD’s Best-of-Show-Award 2025 in the AI category). You drop in your footage, and Eddie will tag, summarize, and search through it so you can skip to the interesting bits. In Rough Cut mode, it can even assemble interview soundbites into a coherent story. They introduced French, German, and Spanish a month ago, and now the update will broaden that reach to 30 languages across all their editing modes.

The new update means you can now search, tag, and assemble your footage in anything from Finnish to Vietnamese, without first translating everything into English. Unfortunately, the company reports that Klingon is still missing, which feels like a missed opportunity for sci-fi editors everywhere.

For filmmakers juggling multilingual projects, this is a practical shift. No workarounds, no separate translation step, just straight to the cut. That’s time saved, which is exactly the point.
