Eddie AI Launches Major Scripted Mode Upgrade – Improved Rough Cuts, Script-Free Editing, and Enhanced Multicam Workflow

Eddie AI announced a significant upgrade to its Scripted Mode, delivering dramatically improved rough-cut performance whether users provide a full script, an outline, or no script at all. According to the company, the new Scripted Mode builds on Eddie’s text-driven editing engine, enabling creators and their editors to generate clean, structured rough cuts at unprecedented quality. With what the company describes as a deeper understanding of story flow, stronger take selection, and a redesigned text-based editing panel, Eddie can now reportedly assemble watchable, coherent edits from raw footage alone, a capability the team positions as a breakthrough for YouTubers, corporate video producers, and production companies handling high-volume straight-to-camera content.

Quick refresher if you’re new here: Eddie AI works as an assistant editor that plugs directly into Adobe Premiere Pro, DaVinci Resolve, and Final Cut Pro. Eddie runs on Macs and PCs, and uses text-driven workflows to handle the boring stuff, from logging interviews to building rough cuts. We’ve been tracking Eddie’s evolution pretty closely, covering everything from extension releases to 30-language support, text-based editing interfaces, and that massive 50-update drop that touched everything from Blackmagic Cloud integration to multicam fixes.

This upgrade tackles three big things: working without a script, smarter take selection, and a cleaner editing interface. Let’s take a closer look at it.

Working without a script

Eddie AI used to need a script or at least a detailed outline to do its thing. According to the company, the new version analyzes raw footage and figures out the story structure on its own, selecting the best takes and assembling them into something that actually makes sense, no written guidance required.

This opens Eddie up to many more scenarios, such as straight-to-camera content, vlogs, corporate talking-head videos, YouTube content recorded without a script, and educational content. This mode is really meant for linearly recorded video. For non-linear edits, the company recommends Eddie’s other mode, Chat & Edit, to create interview-based rough cuts, which is where it finds soundbites across interviews and cuts them together in an arc.

Better take selection, easier swaps

Eddie rebuilt its take selection from the ground up. While it still looks at the audio when making its decision, the decision criteria have been enhanced. According to Eddie AI, the unused takes don’t disappear; they appear in a clean text interface as strike-through text, allowing you to swap them out and make a rough cut in a text editor before jumping back into your NLE timeline.

Also, multicam and separate-audio handling is now supported.

Cleaner text-based editing interface

The text editing panel got a makeover. The company promises better scene segmentation, easier drag-and-drop for rearranging elements, and clearer visual indicators for structure. You can trim clips, reorder segments, and dial in the rough cut’s flow before sending it to your NLE, all without touching a timeline. For editors who think in text first (or teams already working from scripts), this can be much faster than scrubbing through footage and making manual selects.

And for those who want to see the alternative takes in their NLE, Eddie preserves them as disabled clips on higher tracks aligned to the chosen take.

Other improvements

While Scripted Mode headlines the release, Eddie AI also shipped a suite of workflow upgrades across NLEs:

  • “Dirty” multicam sequences for Premiere
Users can now import synced or pre-graded multicam timelines from Premiere directly into Eddie, streamlining multicam workflows. Learn more.
  • Enable/disable markers for export
Clip markers, timeline markers, favorite segments, or none – editors now have full control over which markers appear in exported edits. Learn more.
  • Add a treatment or brief to guide your edit
Eddie can now read treatments, briefs, or even client URLs to shape story structure and rough-cut decisions.
  • Premiere Pro: Preserve color and frame-rate interpretation
Pre-graded or interpreted footage (60 fps → 24 fps, or other rates) now retains color grades and timing when returned to Premiere.
  • Final Cut Pro: Multi-file, multicam support
FCP editors can now drag multiple files per angle into Eddie’s Chat & Edit mode as true multicam clips directly from the event browser.
  • Clearer Interface: new “start project” flow
The project creation experience now guides editors based on video type – corporate, event, YouTube, wedding, documentary, and more – surfacing the ideal workflow for each.
