FilmConvert Nitrate and CineMatch now Support the Canon EOS R3

FilmConvert Nitrate and CineMatch – color grading and camera matching solutions – now support the Canon EOS R3. The camera pack can be downloaded directly from the FilmConvert website. The latest version of CineMatch can be downloaded here.

Announced almost a year ago, the Canon EOS R3 currently sits at the top of Canon’s mirrorless lineup. Although this is a true photographer’s workhorse, the EOS R3 is also a very capable video camera.

Featuring a 24.1MP CMOS full-frame sensor with 5-axis IBIS, the R3 supports 30fps stills burst mode with AE/AF tracking, Dual Pixel CMOS AF II, and a new Eye control AF that focuses where you look (in photo mode).

The video recording capabilities of the EOS R3 include 6K (6000 x 3164) 60fps internal 12-bit raw and a variety of 10-bit 4:2:2 recording modes such as DCI 4K 120fps. The camera also supports Canon Log 3.

Unfortunately, it seems that Canon is not able to fulfill the huge demand on time as there were long waiting times for the camera earlier this year. At the time of writing this article, B&H says the camera is temporarily out of stock, but CVP claims to have it in stock in the UK, so the situation seems to have improved slightly at least in some regions.

FilmConvert Nitrate and Cinematch now support the Canon EOS R3

FilmConvert Nitrate and CineMatch are color grading and camera matching solutions that help users reach pleasing film looks relatively easily. Both apps also exist in the form of plugins for popular NLEs. When a new camera is released, the FilmConvert team creates new LUTs specifically for the camera model to produce consistent results.

In the case of the EOS R3, this took a bit longer (perhaps the limited availability of the camera is part of the reason?), but the support is here now and the R3 footage can be graded and matched using FIlmConvert and CineMatch.

The FilmConvert Nitrate Canon EOS R3 camera pack can be downloaded directly from the FilmConvert website. The latest version of CineMatch can be downloaded here.

Price and availability

FilmConvert and CineMatch are paid apps, but both offer a free trial. The full license currently costs between $139 and $199 depending on the version or bundle.

The Canon EOS R3 camera body currently sells for $5,999 (around €5,736 plus VAT in Europe). As I mentioned above, however, there can be long waiting times with this camera.
