Freefly Ember S5K Highspeed Camera Adds Post Stabilization in iOS App

Freefly Systems, the company specializing in filmmaking gear and stabilizing systems, has released a new feature for its Freefly Ember S5K high-speed camera, allowing post stabilization from the Ember iOS app.

We are living in exciting times for filmmaking. There are no more excuses not to go out and shoot whatever idea you have. The trend in camera companies nowadays is adding features that anyone can use easily. This tendency is especially beneficial for small teams and solo filmmakers since these new features save us time and the need for bigger crews.

Adding stabilization from your iPhone

The Freefly Ember S5K is a Super 35 high-speed camera capable of shooting more than 1000 frames per second in its 4K 2.37:1 mode, and 616 FPS in 5K 16:9. If you want to know more about the camera, we released an article in June with sample footage.

The camera can be controlled via their native iOS app, which now includes stabilization. After applying it, the video clips are smoothed out while preserving every frame. Combining speed ramping and stabilization from the app is a nice feature in any camera that captures high-speed footage. In these cameras, the footage usually looks steady when filming at high frame rates, but when accelerated to faster speeds, all the unwanted movements are more visible.

Freefly tested the new feature in different scenarios before its release. They even created a cable cam with climbing gear and a hard-mounted Ember camera, getting impressively steady shots after stabilization. Other scenarios involved using the camera on a drone, on a monopod, and shooting handheld with a 400mm lens, and all of them produced good results.
