FUJINON Duvo HZK25-1000mm F2.8-5.0 PL Mount Cinema Box Lens Now Available

FUJIFILM announced the availability of its FUJINON Duvo HZK25-1000mm F2.8-F5.0 PL-Mount Cinema Box Lens. It’s a box-style lens with an ARRI PL mount, a 40x zoom range, a 1.5x extender, and an f/2.8 maximum aperture at 25mm. It covers both Super35 and full-frame sensors and offers a high combination of magnification and telephoto reach for cine-style cameras. Let’s look at what such a long lens can do!

FUJINON introduced the Duvo HZK25-1000mm F2.8-F5.0 PL-Mount Cinema Box Lens at the Inter BEE in Tokyo in November 2022. Please check out our article on the lens and watch the interview with Stosh Durbacz from FUJIFILM about the reasons behind this design choice and the specific needs of today’s live productions.

FUJINON Duvo HZK25-1000mm F2.8-5.0 – features

The HZK25-1000 box-style lens features a native PL-Mount, a zoom ratio of 40x, and a telephoto focal length of 1000mm. The lens uses a dual-format system that supports two single sensor sizes, full-frame, and Super35 sensors. The HZK25-1000 enables shooting with the same field of view in both formats, but you need to use the 1.5x expander for the lens to cover full-frame sensors. This will give a focal length of 37.5-1500mm with F2.8-F5.0.

Camera operators can also operate the HZK25-1000 in a setup for live broadcasting since existing FUJINON box lens accessories can be used to support multi-camera operations. For film and commercial production, the lens’ focus, iris, and zoom features can be remotely controlled by connecting to wireless lens controllers. The lens has a breathing compensation technology, ensuring the subject framing does not change during focusing.

Optical image stabilization

When you operate at a focal length up to 1500mm, you need a really solid and heavy tripod, and yet you still need an optical image stabilization system. An anti-vibration mechanism and firmware utilize FUJIFILM’s ceramic ball roller system to ensure a stable picture. Not only does this mechanism provide a high level of anti-vibration performance against shaking caused by footholds and wind, but it also suppresses shaking of the hands to ensure stable image capture.
