GDU Quantum Rig Monster Kit for RED KOMODO Now Available

The Quantum Rig Monster Kit for RED KOMODO is now available to pre-order from Global Dynamics United’s website. This rearward-expandable rigging solution consists of a dedicated baseplate, a rear extension plate, an L-shaped rear plate with a rubber chest pad, left and right side handles, and additional mini cheese plates. The whole kit retails for $1,299.

Back in February, we brought a new set of accessories for RED KOMODO and V-RAPTOR cameras developed by the Californian company Global Dynamics United to your attention. Available pieces include top and side handles compatible with both cameras, as well as the Quantum Rig specifically designed for RED’s flagship 8K camera, the V-RAPTOR.

Now, the “entry-level” RED KOMODO 6K is getting a similar treatment from GDU with a dedicated Quantum Rig Monster Kit that revolves around a custom-built baseplate. Let’s take a closer look.

GDU Quantum Rig Monster Kit for RED KOMODO

At the core of the GDU Quantum Rig Monster Kit for RED KOMODO is a low-profile baseplate, which differs from the existing V-RAPTOR Quantum Baseplate. This new accessory attaches to the bottom of the camera via a single 1/4”-20 screw. This connection is then reinforced by two locator bosses that fit into the KOMODO’s star-labeled registration points at the bottom of the camera, thus preventing the plate from rotating.

The KOMODO Quantum Baseplate is populated with several 1/4”-20, 3/8”-16, and M4 mounting points to attach accessories on all sides. For example, you can use the two included threaded mounts to install rods underneath your lens.

Moreover, the KOMODO Quantum Baseplate serves as a starting point to expand your rig towards the rear side of the camera using the Quantum Rear Extension Plate and the Rear L-Bracket Cheese Plate. These two accessories nicely wrap around the mini V-mount battery providing additional mounting points for accessories, such as wireless video systems or timecode boxes, while leaving enough room to fit additional modules on the back of the camera. The L-shaped plate can be used “naked” or in combination with a silicone rubber chest pad for more comfortable operation.

Lastly, two additional cheese plates (flat and mini L-shaped) as well as the existing left and right Atlas side handles are included. The side handles connect to the camera body via dedicated branch adapters. Upon placing your order, you can decide to pick up the Atlas handles in white or black to match either your “Stormtrooper” or production model RED KOMODO.
