GL Optics Rehoused Laowa 10mm T3.1 LPL Mount Cinema Lens Introduced

GL Optics, the company specializing in rehousing lenses, has launched the rehoused Laowa 10mm T3.1 LPL mount cinema lens. This full-frame super wide-angle lens offers a rectilinear image for those looking for a wide-angle look without distortion.

GL Optics is a company whose specialty is converting vintage glass into modern filmmaking tools by rehousing them and adapting their features to the needs of today, such as new bodies, focus rings, mounts, etc.

A rectilinear super wide-angle lens

The GL Optics rehoused Laowa 10mm T3.1 LPL mount cinema lens is a super wide-angle lens for jobs requiring a massive field of view. The Laowa lens is the first rectilinear 10mm full-frame option, and it features a LPL mount. This mount, developed by ARRI, was designed specifically for digital capture, featuring a wider diameter (62mm vs. the PL’s 54mm) and a shorter flange focal distance than the original PL mount, allowing optical designers to reduce optical artifacts. It is becoming so popular that you can even convert your own vintage lenses to the LPL mount.

The rehoused Laowa with its rectilinear characteristics is ideal for cityscapes, real-estate videos, or narratives where a super wide angle is desired without adding more distortion to the already stylized lens. The 130.4-degree viewing angle ensures everything is in the shot without altered shapes and lines. The lens also features 15 elements in 9 groups, an aperture of T3.1 for those looking for a shallow depth of field, and a 170-degree focus throw for precise operation. Finally, its minimum focus distance of 4in/10.1cm ensures imaginative shots for those filmmakers looking for an exaggerated effect between the foreground and background.
