The new Nova-Series HD Magnetic Variable ND3-32 + CPL Filter Kit from H&Y has been announced and is expected to be released soon. The filter combines a variable neutral-density range from ND3 to ND32 (about 1.5 to 5 stops) with a built-in circular polarizer and is designed for quick magnetic attachment and smooth rotation. While the full release date hasn’t been announced, H&Y is positioning the filter as a go-to tool for capturing action videos. The pre-sale offers 20% off with the code NOVA20, so let’s take a look.
H&Y is a company based in Hong Kong that specializes in filters. Back in 2023, we reviewed their innovative EVO-series Magnetic/Screw-in filter system with very positive results. The Nova-Series introduces a new lineup, this time combining a variable ND and CPL in a single filter.
The Nova-Series combines a variable ND element with a circular polarizer, so you can control exposure and reduce reflection in one filter. The ND3–32 range gives about five stops of light control, useful for keeping exposure balanced in bright light or when aiming for shallow focus. The CPL adjusts separately to manage reflections and surface glare without stacking separate filters. As an example, this setup can be used to blur moving crowds, create motion effects in flowing water, remove reflections from glass surfaces, and reduce glare.
The Nova-Series minimizes vignetting, especially on wide-angle lenses, as the front element is one size larger than the lens thread diameter. Its optical-grade glass has a nano-coating to protect against scratches and water, and the magnetic mount lets users quickly attach or remove the filter, which is nice for filmmakers who frequently change setups. For those familiar with the EVO system, the Nova offers a lighter, more compact design that mounts straight to the lens without a separate magnetic adapter ring.
The Nova-Series HD Magnetic Variable ND3–32 + CPL Filter Kit features CNC-machined aluminum construction with fluorescent paint markings for easier visibility when adjusting the ND range. The CPL’s locking mechanism keeps your chosen polarization angle securely in place while you shoot.
The H&Y Nova-Series HD Magnetic Variable ND3–32 + CPL Filter Kit is currently available for pre-sale on H&Y’s official website. It comes in sizes ranging from 49 mm ($115 / €83.95) to 82 mm ($155 / €118.95), and during the pre-sale, H&Y is offering a 20% discount with the code NOVA20.
Would a combined ND and CPL filter like this simplify your workflow, or do you prefer keeping them separate for more control? Have you tried magnetic filter systems in fast-paced shooting situations? Let us know in the comments below.

A camera was put in my hands at 16, and I’ve been taking photographs ever since. Before moving to Vienna, I worked as a photographer on film sets, telling stories as they unfolded behind the scenes. Since then, I’ve focused on immersive theater, both as a photographer and an actor. I am the photographer for the award-winning Nesterval ensemble, documenting the energy and atmosphere of their performances. I’m a teller of stories. Stories hold my interest. I’ll take on any project with a story to tell.
