Michael “The Maven” Shiffler is back on Kickstarter with the MAVEN Filters Wave 3 magnetic filter system. MAVEN is known for crafting helpful, field-ready camera accessories that help make shooting smoother without adding complexity. Their magnetic filters are built for fast swaps, better organization, and lasting durability.

Founded by filmmaker and educator Michael Shiffler, MAVEN takes a hands-on, problem-solving approach to gear design. These filters serve a variety of creative needs. The +2 and +4 diopters let you do macro shots without swapping lenses, which is great for details. The Mini Ring Light clips onto any MAVEN filter and adjusts color and brightness on the go.

The LPL + Diffusion Combo softens highlights and cuts glare with a polarizer. Dream Soft mimics the classic “Vaseline on the lens” effect without the mess, and Star Walker boosts bright stars in night shots. Used together, they create a distinct starry glow.

The IR830 filter allows infrared shots at 830 nm without converting your camera. The B&W filters (yellow, orange, red) control tone in monochrome work. Star Effects come in 4, 6, and 8-point versions for creative starbursts, while the Laser Protector shields against concert lasers.

The Ghost Chaser and Double Trouble Ghost filters were part of a $75k stretch goal and are now unlocked since the campaign passed that mark. Ghost Chaser gives you a directional ghost trail, while Double Trouble adds motion blur on both sides of the subject. Both mount magnetically for quick changes.
Upcoming unlocks include a kaleidoscope filter for dreamy in-camera patterns, an 82 mm H-Alpha for capturing hydrogen-alpha light in astrophotography, and the Miami Sky series for gradient color effects.

• Threadless Step-Up Rings – Neon Green snap-on design

This Wave includes hardware upgrades, too. Extra-strength adapters now come in Bronze and grip filters better. The step-up rings in Neon Green snap on without threading, making swaps faster. Step-down rings in Burnt Red bring smaller filters to larger lenses. Cap colors shown in the video can help with kit organization.

Campaign structure and delivery

This campaign ships in batches. Batch 1 backers get their rewards in November 2025. Later backers will have later delivery dates, and in some cases the pledge amount will be slightly higher.

MAVEN provides a Backer’s Guide for picking your filters and accessories, with nearly 50 options according to their launch video. Final selections happen via an October survey. Backers must pay shipping costs, VAT, and import fees after the campaign ends.

Backing tiers and costs

Pledge tiers range from $69 for a single filter up to $999 for a full 20-filter package. Single-filter tiers let you pick smaller filters, while bundle options include Quick Cases, adapter rings, and caps.

For photographers wanting a full kit, the 10-, 15-, or 20-filter packages add more accessories for better value. The 82 mm H-Alpha will retail for $349 after the campaign, so some backers may lock it in early. MAVEN bills shipping separately after the campaign closes.
